Knife stabbing in Schwabing: Perpetrator and victim remain silent!

A quiet evening in Munich recently turned into chaos when police were called to a heated argument in a supermarket square in Schwabing. On Saturday evening at around 6:30 p.m., several people alerted the emergency services about a physical altercation in the parking lot on Lerchenauer Straße / Schleißheimer Straße. When they arrived, the officers discovered that four men were involved in the incident, including a 23-year-old with no permanent address in Germany and a 24-year-old from the Miesbach district. During the argument, the 23-year-old is said to have attacked the 24-year-old with a knife-like object, which caused him several bleeding injuries to his stomach area. He was immediately taken to a hospital by emergency services, reports the evening newspaper.

During the course of the investigation, two further suspects aged 18 and 25, both from Munich, were arrested. All four people involved, including the victim, refused to make statements to the police. Despite the extensive forensic measures in the parking lot, Commissariat 25 took over the investigation. The 23-year-old was released from police custody the following Sunday on orders from the public prosecutor.

Another violent crime in Munich

Just a little later, on Monday evening, another frightening incident occurred in a supermarket in Untersendling. A 31-year-old woman was shot dead by police officers after threatening to use a knife. The incident began when a witness reported an assault between several people at Goetheplatz.

The suspect fled into the supermarket, where she was discovered by emergency services. When the police spoke to her, the woman suddenly pulled out a knife and pointed it at the officers. In response to the threat, the police initially used pepper spray before ultimately firing four shots, hitting the woman multiple times. It is tragic that the 31-year-old died at the scene. Investigations by the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and the public prosecutor's office were ongoing to check the legality of the operation.

The frightening increase in knife attacks

These incidents are part of a larger development in Germany that is worrying. According to a publication by Statista on police-recorded knife attacks in Germany between 2022 and 2024, there is an increasing trend. The numbers make it clear that knife attacks are becoming more and more common in urban areas like Munich. A growing social debate is concerned with the causes and the measures to combat them. It is clear that there is a lot to do.

The police will continue to investigate intensively to clarify the background to both incidents. But while authorities carry out their work, the population remains called upon to exercise caution when moving around urban areas at a time of growing uncertainty.
