Serious accident in Schwabing: cyclist without helmet falls after collision!

There was a serious traffic accident in Schwabing late on Friday evening, August 22, 2025, in which a 61-year-old Pedelec driver from the Munich district was seriously injured. The accident occurred when a 33-year-old driver from Munich wanted to park his vehicle on the side of the road to reverse into parking. The Pedelec driver collided with the stationary Dacia car.

The 61-year-old's injuries were so serious that he had to be taken to hospital immediately. What is worrying is that he was not wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the fall. This fact is particularly alarming considering that in 2022, a total of 22 people died in 46,913 traffic accidents in Munich, including 9 cyclists. The police have taken over the investigation and are once again warning about the importance of wearing helmets for cyclists to avoid head injuries, as München 24 reports.

Accident statistics and safety information

A review of accident statistics shows that cyclists are exposed to a high risk in Munich traffic. Of the 3,475 cyclists involved in accidents in 2022, 343 were reported as seriously injured. This clearly shows the need for more safety measures such as protected cycle paths. Police Vice President Michael Dibowski appeals to cyclists to wear helmets to prevent serious head injuries.

The Munich traffic police are investigating this case and are once again calling for caution. It is repeatedly pointed out that many cycling accidents are caused by inattentive other road users. Cyclists are particularly at risk in narrow road situations where there is often not enough space to overtake safely.

Another incident occurred on the evening of August 18, 2025, when a 55-year-old cyclist lost control of her handlebars after coming into contact with a pedelec on the cycle path on the Isarring, on the way from Bogenhausen to Schwabing. The Pedelec driver, a 38-year-old, tried to overtake the cyclist, which caused her to come into contact with her front tire and ultimately caused her to fall onto the Middle Ring. In this case, too, the cyclist was not wearing a helmet, which led to serious injuries. Fortunately, the other two people involved, a car driver and the Pedelec driver, remained uninjured and there were no major traffic disruptions during the accident recording, as Hello Munich reported.

Forensic science in use

But unfortunate incidents don't just happen in road traffic. On the same day as the accident in Schwabing, namely on August 22, 2025, the police reported a burglary in Schwanthaler Höhe. Unknown perpetrators broke into an apartment building by forcefully opening an apartment door and searching inside for valuables. Here too, we are asking for information from the public, as the amount of damage is in the five-figure range.

In addition, a single-family home in Trudering was hit between August 18 and 23, 2025, and valuables were also stolen. The criminal investigation team is working intensively on these cases and hopes for support from the neighborhood.

It is hoped that such incidents and accidents can be reduced in the future through increased safety measures and greater awareness of road traffic.
