Tragedy in Feldmoching: Two dead after gas leak in gazebo!
A tragic incident caused a stir last weekend in an allotment garden in Munich-Feldmoching. A gas leak, probably from a generator in the basement of a gazebo, led to two deaths and several injuries at a private party.
On Saturday, August 9, 2025, at around 5:45 p.m., the emergency call was made about two unconscious people in the gazebo. Shortly afterwards, several patrol cars and fire departments responded. The emergency services found two men on site who had to be resuscitated. Despite efforts, a 41-year-old Munich man died in hospital on Saturday, and a 50-year-old man, initially thought to be seriously injured, died on Sunday. The Munich police confirmed the two deaths and also reported that four other men between the ages of 26 and 58 were slightly injured. Three of them had to be taken to hospital, while the fourth was released after an on-site examination. Fortunately, there was never any danger to the surrounding population as only those attending the celebration were affected.
Details about the incident
The tragic events occurred during a birthday party to which a total of seven men were invited. The celebration took place near the Fasanerie Lake and was overshadowed by a generator in the basement of the gazebo that was emitting carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that, if poisoned, can cause symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea and ultimately loss of consciousness. Investigators suspect that the generator was the cause of the poisonings and are already taking the first steps to clarify the circumstances of the incident. The criminal police have started investigating this.
The fire department was alerted around 6 p.m. as concerns grew about the health problems of those present. Elevated carbon monoxide levels were detected in the gazebo, highlighting the need for immediate resuscitation measures. A crisis intervention team then looked after those affected and their relatives to ensure they received psychological support during these difficult times.
The tragic accident shows the dangers that can arise from the incorrect use of gas appliances in closed rooms. Awareness of the potential risks of such devices is of great importance to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
