School emergency in Lochhausen: physical education in the classroom!
Concerned parents from Lochhausen gathered in front of the local elementary school on June 5, 2025 to draw attention to the increasing challenges caused by the influx of young families in the region. Loud tz The need for childcare places in lunchtime care has increased, but the numbers speak for themselves: of the 165 available places, only 20 could be reassigned. This hits many parents hard, as over 50% of them did not receive a place in the so-called “Mitti”.
The situation becomes even more precarious because the primary school's single gymnasium is overcrowded and physical education lessons have to be held in the classroom at times. The parents have already submitted an application to the city of Munich, which has been signed by over 200 families. The demands are clear: deficits in the social infrastructure must be addressed in order to cope with the increase in population.
City administration and challenges
The city of Munich is convinced that current needs have been met and is planning to keep the number of classes stable until 2034 with a maximum of 20 classes. The school has 24 classrooms available. However, many parents view the needs calculation as outdated, which leads to justified criticism. This situation not only affects school education, but also the families' life decisions. The pressure on local offerings is growing, and the local after-school care system is unable to meet demand.
A round table between the parent representatives, the school management and city representatives has not yet produced any concrete solutions. A proposal from the parents' representatives envisages expanding the sports hall in order to create additional specialist rooms for lunchtime care. This would primarily meet the needs of children who need a reliable afternoon activity.
Looking at challenges faced in the education system
Overall, it is clear that family-related infrastructure is a central issue in Germany. Loud bpb Day care offers for children are particularly important. These include, among other things, education and care offers in daycare centers as well as care offers for school children in after-school care.
Public spending on these family policy measures is impressive, but in many regions there is still too little investment in the expansion of the necessary infrastructure. Many parents are faced with the question of whether they want to live in a city where their children do not receive the care and support they deserve. Here, decision-makers are required to set the course quickly.
With the planned nationwide right to all-day care, which will come into force on August 1, 2026, there will be a stronger focus on afternoon care for first graders. Time is short, ensuring a sound education and care structure for future generations must be the top priority.
We can only hope that the city administration takes the concerns and wishes of the families seriously and that there will be noticeable improvements in the educational infrastructure in Lochhausen. A good hand for the future of our children is now required.
