A spectacular basketball game took place today at the St. Emmeram Realschule in Aschheim, where the Gladiators from VfR Garching met the Panthers from FC Aschheim. The Garching team proved to be unbeatable and won the derby with 78:45. This means they stay on track in the fight for promotion in the district class, while at the same time allowing the fewest points for an opponent this season Mercury reported.
Garching's top scorer was the strong Aleksandr Kochergov with 22 points. He received strong support from Delong Zhu with 16 points and Felix Huang who contributed 15 points. Matteo Tonti rounded out the double-digit score with 10 points. In the second quarter, VfR Garching only allowed 7 points, which led Aschheim to a clear deficit of 21:42 at halftime. Christopher Blüggel was the best scorer for Aschheim and scored 12 points.

The Garching team presented a strong performance throughout the game, showed an impressive team performance and allowed an average of less than 12 points per quarter. Particular attention is paid to the first men's team, which is performance-oriented, while the second team and the youth teams concentrate on training and match practice. The hobby teams meet simply for the fun of sport.
The Gladiators particularly recommend their new training program for children born between 2010 and 2014, who can train weekly from November 14, 2022 under the name “Mini-Gladiators”. The commitment of VfR Garching goes beyond its own sport: In collaboration with the Valenton Basketball Academy from France, virtual workshops on important topics such as sustainability and racism took place. Such activities underline the association's interest and commitment to social issues.
