Patrick Lindner conjures up an Oktoberfest atmosphere in the nursing home

What could be better than sharing the joy of Oktoberfest with those who are often left on the sidelines? On September 27, 2025, this thought was a matter of the heart for pop star Patrick Lindner, who is celebrating his 65th birthday today. He visited the “Evangelical Care Center” in Obersendling, where his late mother Hedwig Raab lived. In this special setting, his hit “Bella Italia” brought happy faces and a touch of folk festival to the nursing home, which has now been worth visiting for 10 years.

Seeing the residents dance to the sounds of the melody fills Lindner with joy. The seniors' exuberant mood and shining eyes captured these precious moments in a video on Instagram. “This is priceless for me,” said Lindner, who has been visiting the nursing home regularly for several years. A geriatric nurse emphasized the importance of his commitment and thanked him for the beautiful memories he gave the residents.

An eventful life path

Patrick Lindner's career is characterized by numerous highs and some low points. The singer, whose real name is Friedrich Günther Raab, initially started out as a chef and worked in the top kitchen at the Bayerischer Hof. His musical ambitions were laughed at by his father at the time, but this only spurred Lindner on even more. After he came out in 1999 and came out as a homosexual, his CD and ticket sales took a hit. But Lindner didn't let himself get down. After over 35 years in show business, his support from fans is stronger than ever, and he is proud of his successes, which include numerous hits as well as awards such as the “Bambi” and the “Golden Tuning Fork”.

The healing power of music

Lindner's visits to the nursing home are not only a personal tradition, but also a way of giving the residents back quality of life. Music has invaluable value, especially for people with dementia who can often be reactivated by melodies from their past. The German Alzheimer's Society highlights how music can lift the mood and bring back memories in people with dementia. For many, singing old songs is a universal connection to joy of life and communal experience. The brochure “Music in the Accompaniment of People with Dementia” shows how important the use of music is in the lives of these people - and Lindner puts this into practice when he sings the familiar melodies during his visits.

Patrick Lindner, who also leads a fulfilling life in his private life, lives with his husband and manager Peter Schäfer in Munich. In the past, he adopted an orphan from St. Petersburg and is committed to queer life through his Patrick Lindner Foundation. He is planning a celebration with around 25 close friends at Oktoberfest today and enjoys tasting freshly tapped Oktoberfest beer. “The first sip is pure joy,” says Lindner, who enriches this carefree atmosphere with his musical career and his social commitment.

Not only on his birthday, but also on every other day, he shows that true joy lies in sharing experiences and connecting with other people.
