Serious accident in Munich: car crashes into bus stop, pedestrian injured!
On Wednesday evening, July 2nd, 2025, there was a dramatic incident at Herzog-Ernst-Platz in Sendling. A driver lost control and crashed into a bus stop. Not only was a tree knocked down, but a lighting system was also damaged. A passer-by suffered injuries and had to be taken to hospital, but fortunately there is no acute danger to life, as police officials confirmed. The total damage is estimated at several thousand euros, which will mean a lot of work for those affected.
The police are still investigating and have not yet provided any concrete information about whether the driver may have passed out at the wheel. The traffic lights at the scene of the accident were also severely affected. The police will regulate traffic at the intersection until the next morning.
Before this incident, Munich had already suffered another serious accident on May 7th, 2025, when a BMW crashed into a tram stop on the corner of Arnulfstrasse and Donnersbergstrasse. There too, the driver, a 52-year-old man from the Miesbach district, remained uninjured, but several people were injured - three of them seriously. A large contingent of rescue workers was on duty, while police officers ensured that there was no terrorist background. The extensive traffic control led to closures that lasted for several hours.
Both accidents shed light on the problem of traffic safety in the city, an issue that is increasingly coming into focus due to current statistics.
Road safety in focus
Traffic accident statistics are no secret, but the results are of central importance when it comes to road safety measures. Statistics provided by the Federal Statistical Office published make it easier to recognize patterns in accidents and to develop effective prevention strategies. The aim of this data is to further increase safety on our roads, for example through targeted education or adjustments to road construction.
The current traffic situation and repeated incidents in Munich underline how necessary such measures are and how important it is that all road users act carefully and responsibly.
Whether it's a regular trip downtown or an unexpected purchase, safety must always come first. The Munich police and the city administration are called upon to do everything they can to prevent such dramatic incidents.
The accident at Herzog-Ernst-Platz shows once again how fragile our road safety is and how quickly chaos can reign in a city like Munich.
