Unna fire brigade receives three new vehicles - Sparkasse donates 40,000 euros!
On Monday, June 30, 2025, an important step to reinforce the fire brigade fleet was taken in Unna. Mayor Dirk Wigant ceremoniously handed over the keys for two new device cars and a team transport vehicle to the Unna fire brigade. This investment comes at a time when the challenges for the fire brigade often increase. The Sparkasse Unnakamen made a significant contribution with a generous donation of 40,000 euros to enable the purchase of the team transport vehicle. This vehicle will benefit the Unna-Nord youth fire brigade in particular, which was launched in 2025 and currently comprises 20 young people who regularly learn the use of fire brigade devices.
The team transport vehicle of the youth fire brigade is used in the fields of afferde, old Heide, Colonie and Königsborn. Mirco Rienhoff, a board member of the Sparkasse Unnakamen, emphasized the importance of promoting the youth fire brigade in his explanations in order to prepare the next generations for the challenges of the fire service. The two new device cars are not only important for the full-time and volunteers, but also play a central role in the logistical support of missions, especially with larger events such as storms. For the equipment of these device cars, an additional 40,000 euros were invested for the special unit of information and communication (IUK), which can thus efficiently coordinate operations.
additional reinforcement for the emergency services
Not only the Unna fire brigade benefits from new vehicles. Already last year, on November 6, 2024, two emergency medical vehicles and a turntable ladder were put into service, which the Unna fire department is now strengthening. These vehicles that were handed over by the mayor are available at the CKU Mitte and CKU West hospital locations.
The emergency vehicles are equipped with the latest technology, including ECG devices, defibrillators and ventilators in order to provide quick and effective help in an emergency. The two identical vehicles are used in the "rendezvous" system together with an ambulance and are therefore optimally set up in order to be able to react quickly in emergencies.
challenges in everyday fire brigade
The fire brigade in Germany has a total of 48,100 units, with the volunteer fire departments over one million members. The challenges for these helpers have grown continuously. In 2022, the fire brigade moved out around 229,000 missions to extinguish fires, save people and provide technical help. Nevertheless, not everything that shines is: The number of attacks and acts of violence against firefighters has increased, with 687 registered incidents in 2023. In Unna, the helpers are also dependent on the company behind them and appreciates their work.
The latest purchases on vehicles and the support from the Sparkasse are a clear sign that the fire service also has a good hand in Unna in order to face the rapidly changing requirements. With the promotion of the youth fire brigade and strengthening the fleet, the city sets a positive sign of the future of fire fighting and rescue in the region.
