Regional train collides with tree in Munich – passengers remain unharmed!

A serious incident occurred today in the Bavarian capital Munich. At 11:20 a.m., a regional train crashed into parts of a fallen tree while it was lying between the main train station and the east train station. Fortunately, all around 400 passengers and the train driver remained uninjured BR reported.

The tree had fallen so badly that it broke through a noise barrier and several branches fell onto the tracks. A Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) regional train that was on its way to Munich collided with these branches and sustained damage to the front area. A locomotive on the opposite track was also slightly affected. After the incident, the railway line between the main station and Ostbahnhof was immediately closed.

Rescue measures and train cancellations

Emergency services from the federal and state police and the fire department were immediately deployed at the scene of the accident. Rescuing the passengers from the train was the top priority. While the BRB informed that the regional trains in the east would have to turn around and return in Grafing or at the Ostbahnhof by 4:30 p.m., passengers between the main and Ostbahnhof were forced to switch to the S-Bahn.

Although the exact duration of the closure remained unclear, the commitment of the rescue workers on site was noticeable. At the same time, long-distance trains were rerouted in order to maintain traffic as best as possible.

Weather warning and further developments

In addition, the German Weather Service announced that squalls are expected in the region next Monday. These weather conditions could pose further challenges and should be monitored closely by citizens.

It remains to be seen how rail passengers will deal with the diversions and restricted transport connections. The BRB has announced that it will inform passengers of all developments. In such circumstances, it is essential that travelers pay particular attention to the latest news during their journeys.
