Rescue in sight? Greek restaurant Pallas Athene” facing closure!

The Munich gastronomy scene is once again facing challenges. The popular Greek restaurant “Pallas Athene” in the East Ice Sports Center in Ramersdorf-Perlach will close on July 1, 2025. The reason for this is outdated kitchen technology that no longer complies with current regulations. The estimated renovation costs of around 1.5 million euros are not affordable for the operator Parasidis Panagiotis, which is why the lease agreement with the Paulaner brewery has already been terminated Hello Munich reported.

At a meeting of the Ramersdorf-Perlach district committee, a letter from the city administration was presented, which offers new hope for an interim solution for the restaurant. District committee boss Thomas Kauer (CSU) informed about an on-site meeting between the Paulaner brewery and the city school board to determine the need for the restaurant. However, the city administration has admitted that long-term preservation of the restaurant is not feasible. However, temporary use could be possible, possibly with an adapted space usage concept and a limited offer.

A traditional restaurant on the brink of extinction?

Parasidis Panagiotis is open to suggestions and would like to continue running the restaurant. He is prepared to adapt the offer and take necessary measures to meet the necessary requirements. Citizens have already contacted the district committee by email and have spoken out in favor of preserving the “Pallas Athene”. The aging restaurant is known for its Greek cuisine, which includes much more than just gyros. The offer includes various meat dishes and salads, including the popular dish Moussaka - a casserole made from eggplant and minced meat, which is prepared here according to tried and tested tradition Pallas-Athene Munich.

But it's not just the “Pallas Athene” that is fighting for survival in the city. In recent months, other dining establishments in Munich have been forced to close their doors. Restaurants like “Pasta e basta” and the Munich City Cafe have already given up after decades of operation. Managing director Otto-Gerhard Knoller-Weber mentioned that the tense economic situation, including increased energy costs and personnel shortages, is putting numerous companies under pressure, among other things Mercury reported.

Protecting local gastronomy

The pressure on the catering industry is high, and the closures are a clear sign that urgent solutions are needed. Both local politicians and citizens seem to be aware of the dramatic situation. “Pallas Athene” has not only a culinary value, but also a social and cultural one. A possible interim solution could be a first step to save the restaurant from permanent closure and to continue offering Greek specialties to Munich residents. Whether this will be successful remains to be seen, but hope is there!
