Sexual harassment in Neuperlach: Police are urgently looking for witnesses!

A worrying incident caused a stir in Munich-Nueperlch on Saturday evening: a 17-year-old student was the victim of sexual harassment in the Pep shopping center. According to Süddeutsche, the attack took place in a clothing store shortly before closing time. While the student was standing at the checkout, an unknown man suddenly grabbed her buttocks. The situation escalated when the perpetrator followed her to the Neuperlach Zentrum subway station.

There was physical contact again on the U5 subway line in the direction of Laimer Platz, with the man again touching the young woman on the buttocks. The student courageously recognized the danger and called the emergency number after getting out at Innsbrucker Ring. However, the perpetrator fled in an unknown direction and despite an immediate search by the police, he remained unidentified. The detectives are now hoping for surveillance videos from the shopping center and the subway to obtain further clues.

Call for witnesses to come forward

The police are urgently asking for the public's help. Witnesses who made relevant observations in the PEP area or on the subway ride on Saturday evening are asked to contact Tag24. The Munich Police Headquarters, especially Commissariat 15, can be reached on 08929100.

This incident is part of a larger problem because, according to Statista, the number of recorded sexual crimes in Germany has been increasing for years. Around 128,000 cases were registered in 2024, a high. The most common victims are young women between the ages of 14 and 20—an alarming statistic that shows how important it is to question and push back on traditional thought patterns and behaviors. Especially since the majority of victims are female, it is important to raise awareness of gender-specific violence against women, as Statista report over 91 percent of victims are women, and in the case of rape this proportion is as high as 94 percent.

Society has a duty to counteract these grievances. Every incident should remind us to be vigilant and work together to ensure a safe environment.
