Neuperland in Munich: This is how a place becomes a community oasis!

A breath of fresh air is blowing through the city, and that is urgently needed! An exciting project aims to transform the orphaned Hanns-Seidel-Platz in the Neuperlach district of Munich into a thriving community oasis. The vision behind this project comes from the social entrepreneurGünes Seyfarth, who is involved as an initiator to redesign the square in “Neuperland”. Playing, climbing and leisure opportunities for residents are planned here to create a space that invites young and old to relax and interact. ZDF reports on this exciting development and the goal of strengthening social cohesion in the neighborhood.

But that's not all! In other cities, too, work is being done to revitalize “vegetating” neighborhoods. InMagdeburgFranziska Müller andMathias Kuhnto revitalize the old and new town. Exciting activities are being planned, where even groups of students can contribute their ideas for the future. Abandoned supermarkets are to be converted into arts and crafts spaces, and a neighborhood caretaker is being sought. This shows how important a networked neighborhood and active participation of citizens are.

Neuperland and his visions

Another highlight of the “Neuperland” project is the effort to form a real community. With a wide range of leisure activities, the place should not only be attractive for children, but also attract adults. The exchange between generations is a central concern of Günes Seyfarth and her team. The aim of these measures is to create a place where people enjoy spending time and the neighborhood flourishes.

In addition, we are observing an exciting trend in the neighborhood ofAmsterdam, where the innovative living concept “De Warren” is celebrating its two-year anniversary. Over 50 adults and children live there, and the goal is clear: social and affordable housing for a diverse mix of people. The co-founderChandar van der Zandeencourages citizens to actively participate in these changes. This creates an environment that promotes diversity and community.

A new perspective on neighborhoods

A particularly successful example is in MagdeburgFares Saleh Agawith his “grandpa snack”. It not only brings culinary diversity to the neighborhood, but also symbolizes how people from different cultures can contribute to revitalizing the street.Mathias Kuhnemphasizes that new start-up cultures help reduce vacancies and open up new perspectives for the neighborhood.

What about the plans and initiatives in Munich and beyond? At a time when it is important to strengthen local communities, the initiators rely on a variety of creative ideas and concepts that enrich coexistence. It will be exciting to see how the projects develop and what positive changes they will bring with them. The revitalization of these squares and districts shows that something is definitely happening!
