Neuperlach remains alive: district management extended until 2027!
Things continue to move forward in Neuperlach! The district management will be extended until the end of 2027, as reported by the Munich Green Party. This decision was passed unanimously in the planning committee. The Munich Society for Urban Renewal (MGS) remains responsible for the project and ensures that the renovation process in the district is actively supported. The people of Neuperlach can look forward to numerous workshops and participation formats that invite exchange between the various actors in the neighborhood.
A look at the developments in the district shows that in 2024, six projects have already been funded with a total of 131,000 euros from the disposal fund. These include a photo project with a subsequent exhibition and brochure as well as a neighborhood garden and a school field at the Montessori School Campus di Monaco. These initiatives promote a sense of community and provide space for creative ideas. City councilor Christian Smolka highlights the successes of the district management and emphasizes its importance for the people of Neuperlach.
The redevelopment areas in detail
The redevelopment areas of Neuperlach North and Neuperlach Center are crucial for the urban development of the district. On January 19, 2022, the city council decided to formally designate these areas, which are now to be upgraded as part of the federal-state urban development funding program “Growth and Sustainable Renewal”. The focus is on creating lively, green and climate-resilient neighborhoods - a measure that is in line with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, which supports the promotion of sustainable urban development nationwide.
The Neuperlach North redevelopment area extends over 208.5 hectares and includes the North and North-East districts as well as the Ostpark. Structural developments should take place here that not only improve the quality of the green spaces, but also take into account the challenges of population growth and climate change. In the newly designed district, bridges that create identity are to be showcased and existing roof areas are to be activated. The traffic routes will also be revised to create better connections between the different districts.
| Redevelopment area | Size | Focal points |
|---|---|---|
| Neuperlach North | 208.5 hectares | Green space renovation, adaptation to climate change, traffic optimization |
| Neuperlach center | 3 hectares | Activation of Hanns-Seidel-Platz, removal of barriers, increase of quality of stay |
The smaller Neuperlach Zentrum redevelopment area, around 3 hectares in size, focuses on the activation of Hanns-Seidel-Platz, also with a view to building a new cultural center. The aim here is to improve the quality of stay and reduce barriers, which is particularly important at the bus station and along Thomas-Dehler-Straße. This is all part of the larger plan to reduce imperviousness in the area.
The renovation in Neuperlach is a long-term process that also promotes decentralized cultural spaces in collaboration with citizens. A new cultural center is planned to further stimulate creative exchange in the district. The residents are actively involved in the design of their surroundings, and the district management provides the appropriate framework for this. The future of Neuperlach looks promising, and the commitment of local residents is at the heart of it.
