Traffic chaos in Munich: Leonrodstrasse closed until July 2025!

The city of Munich has been struggling with sometimes significant traffic disruptions for several weeks. The changes to the road network are primarily due to construction sites affecting various areas of the city and lasting until the summer of 2025. Among the streets affected is Leonrodstrasse, which stretches between Leonrodplatz and Fasaneriestrasse. The Munich public utilities are active here and are carrying out work on a supply line, which is leading to the road narrowing to just one lane. Road users must expect traffic jams and slowdowns until July 4, 2025. A speed limit of 30 km/h must also be observed [News.de](https://www.news.de/amp/auto/858526681/verkehrsmelde-muenchen-zur-verkehrsstoerung-wegen-baustelle-sperrung-einschraenkung-von-07-04- 2025-until-04-07-2025-restrictions-in-traffic-congestion-risk-in-munich-zip-code-80636-neuhausen-nymphenburg-ebenau-dom-pedro-on-leonrodstrasse/1/) reported.

But this is not the only construction phase that will put a lot of strain on Munich drivers in the coming months. Along Englschalkinger Straße in Bogenhausen, where the municipal utilities also work on the power grid, one lane will be eliminated by August 29, 2025, while pedestrians and cyclists can continue to pass through the construction site. Traffic routing is also affected in Forstenried; Here, drivers must expect a complete closure of Forstenrieder Allee between Züricher Straße and Filchnerstraße until August 1, 2025.

More construction sites in the city

Fürstenrieder Straße between Ammerseestraße and Laimer Kreisel is undergoing preparatory measures for the construction of the tram west tangent. Here, road users can look forward to single-lane traffic, while pedestrian and bicycle traffic remains possible at all times, albeit with restricted routes in some cases. According to Munich City, further construction projects are being carried out on streets throughout the city, including Georg-Brauchle-Ring, where work has been underway to renovate the road since June 6th.

A new interactive “Construction Sites Service Map” helps Munich residents find out about ongoing construction work in the city. This innovative platform not only shows all current construction sites, but also temporary traffic restrictions within and from the Middle Ring. In addition, by clicking on the symbols you can quickly and easily obtain information about the respective diversions and the expected duration of the work. The new service, provided by München Digital, aims to create transparency regarding construction activities in the city and thus make planning easier for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

Another example of the large number of construction sites in the city is Gabelsbergerstrasse, where surface restoration work has been taking place since March 10th. There is also limited access for car traffic, while pedestrians and cyclists can still pass through the construction site. Garmischer Straße will also be affected by construction work on the West Tram Tangent until August 2025, forcing drivers to bypass it.
