Seniors' excursion: Discover Regensburg's historical treasures!

On September 10, 2025, the seniors from the parishes of Röhrmoos, Großinzemoos and Sigmertshausen set off for Regensburg together with the Großinzemoos veterans and reservist community. The aim of the excursion was to explore the fascinating old town and the current state exhibition in the “House of Bavarian History” about King Ludwig I. There was also enough time for a tasty lunch in the Hacker-Pschorr-Wirtshaus, which is very popular for its Bavarian cuisine.

The old town of Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006, impressed the group in beautiful weather. Among the places visited, the Regensburg Cathedral of St. Peter stands out, which is considered the most important Gothic work in Bavaria and was completed under King Ludwig I. The seniors explored numerous streets and alleys as well as Neupfarrplatz, which invites you to linger.

A look into history

Regensburg has a rich history that dates back to the time of the Holy Roman Empire. The city was not only an important trading center north of the Alps, but also the seat of the Perpetual Reichstag from 1663 to 1806. Between the 11th and 14th centuries alone, Regensburg experienced a heyday as an important transshipment point on trade routes to Italy, Bohemia, Russia and Byzantium. These unique aspects, which UNESCO also recognizes, make the old town an interesting testimony to cultural traditions and architectural influences that are still visible today. Regensburg.de offers comprehensive information on the city's historical development steps.

Changes over the centuries have had a significant impact on the cityscape. The city successfully survived the Second World War, with buildings in need of restoration having been carefully restored since the 1970s, thus preserving Regensburg's historical integrity. Listed buildings testify to the care with which the city has preserved its authenticity. UNESCO.de highlights how important these measures are to protect the city's unique heritage.

An event with added value

A trip like that of the seniors from Großinzemoos is more than just a sightseeing tour. It is an opportunity to strengthen your connection to your homeland and experience the local culture up close. After all, Regensburg is not only a city with a long history, but also a lively center that attracts numerous visitors year after year through its events and attractions. The combination of socializing and cultural experiences makes such excursions special experiences for everyone involved.

The participants agreed: Such a beautiful trip, coupled with the deep immersion in the history of their homeland, is a lasting memory and should definitely be repeated in the future.
