Carnival 2025/26: Neuhausen and Laim crown their prince couples!
The magical time of carnival has officially begun in Munich! On November 11th at 11:11 a.m., the Munich carnival societies presented their new prince couples for the 2025/26 season. This colorful time, also known as the fifth season, is very popular in the city and brings with it numerous celebrations that last until Ash Wednesday.
The Neuhausen Carnival Club (FCN) has sent a royal couple into the race, Janet (45) and Denis Mair (48), whose heart race begins at Carnival. Her daughter Leni (10) will also be active and dances in the club's youth show. This year's motto “La Dolce Vita in Neuhausen” promises an Italian touch at the premiere, which will be celebrated at the enthronement ball on January 10th in the Augustiner-Keller.
A colorful hustle and bustle in the districts
The Laim carnival club (FCL) also boasts a young royal couple: Franziska Marie Kreuzer (25) and Max Emanuel Kofler (24) are not only a couple in carnival, but also in everyday life. They met at the FCL, where Franziska has been dancing in the guard for almost ten years and Max is showing his talent in men's ballet. Her enthronement ball will take place on January 9th and the anticipation is great.
Würmesia is pleased about the choice of Selim Güder (58) and Carola Simmerl (56) as the new prince couple. While Güder, who lives in Planegg and has been active in carnival since 2016, works as a businessman, Simmerl has his roots in the further education sector at Siemens and brings experience from the Cologne carnival. A special highlight this season is the children's prince couple, consisting of Kilian Anheuer and Valentina Schwarzenböck, who both attend elementary school and already show numerous talents.
Tradition and social gatherings
Kilian Anheuer has been dancing in the traditional costume club for five years and plays drums, while Valentina is active in the Würmesia children's and youth guard, plays the piano and also likes to paint. The ceremonial coronation of the prince couples will be celebrated on January 5th in the Neuried multi-purpose hall, and the little fools can look forward to the children's carnival balls on January 18th and February 14th.
The Unterhaching carnival society Gleisenia presents its prince couple, Jonas I. and Chiara I., complemented by the youth prince couple Karina I. and Joshua I. Their enthronement ball is on the program on November 21st in the Hachinga Hall, and there are numerous highlights ahead here too - including the women's carnival on February 12th and the guard meeting on January 24th.
Carnival is more than just a colorful appearance; it also reflects the cultural roots. And although the origins are unclear, the tradition dates back to the early 13th century. Customs such as the handing over of the city keys to a council of jesters and the noisy processions attest to the liveliness of these celebrations, which are celebrated as a pre-Lent festival and a time of revelry. Especially in Munich and the surrounding area, where carnival is strongly rooted in Roman Catholic customs, this colorful time is also valued as a joy of life.
There will be celebrations, dancing and laughter in Munich until Ash Wednesday, which marks the end of the carnival season. The anticipation of the many events and the creative mood before the upcoming fast determines the atmosphere in the city.
The parades are accompanied by cheerful sounds and colorful costumes, and in the various parts of the city the carnival societies open their doors for the traditional celebrations, divided into numerous programs and events. The curiosity about the cultural performances and the social gathering are enjoyed by everyone - this is how the carnival season is celebrated in Munich!
