Munich celebrates summer with an 80s party and Kocherlball at the weekend!

There's really something going on in Munich next weekend! Summer makes an entertaining return, just in time for a great program of events for the city to enjoy to the fullest. The highlights? The “Best of 80s Open Air Party” on Saturday and the traditional summer festival “Gärtnerplatz Open Air”, which will take place on both days.

On Saturday, July 19th, fans of the 80s can dance to the best hits of that era at Königsplatz from 4 p.m. Admission is moderate at 8 euros, and if you want to book an evening at the cinema, you pay 19 euros for the party including the cult film “Dirty Dancing”, which is shown at 9.30 p.m., garnished with a surprise show. A celebration for all nostalgics!

Summer Festival Gärtnerplatz Open Air

At the same time, the “Gärtnerplatz Open Air 2025” will also take place at Gärtnerplatz, offering a colorful music program on both Saturday and Sunday from 3:30 p.m. Saturday will be dominated by jazz and pop music on the main stage, while on Sunday a classical open-air concert by the orchestra and soloists from the State Theater will take the stage. Admission is free, making for a great opportunity to soak up some summer vibes.

Overall, visitors can look forward to live music, DJs and local artists who fire up the atmospheric stages in front of the “Krake” bar and at the “Deutsche Eiche”. There is also a street food market where physical well-being is not neglected - what more could you want?

Traditional Kocherlball

Sunday starts early with the traditional Kocherlball at the Chinese Tower from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Here the beer garden is transformed into a lively dance floor, where dance masters Katharina Mayer and Magnus Kaindl introduce guests to the art of couple dancing. Musical entertainment and regional food ensure an all-round successful ambience.

For everyone who wants to travel by public transport: Due to the Gärtnerplatz Open Air, two bus routes will be rerouted at the weekend. However, getting to the events is easy using subway lines such as U1, U2 and U6.

Munich has once again lived up to its reputation as a city of culture and celebrations. Whether you're an 80s party animal, a classical music lover or a dance enthusiast - there's something for everyone here. So let’s go and enjoy the last rays of summer!
