New life in the fesch inn: tradition meets modern hospitality!

There is news from the gastronomy scene in the idyllic Dießen region on Lake Ammersee. Peter Fleming (58) and Johann Eder (43) are the new tenants of the traditional inn on Kirchsteig, which has existed since 1681 and was rebuilt in 1881. The previous landlord, Stefan Chitic, terminated his contract and, on the recommendation of Dießen's cultural advisor Miriam Anton, a successor was quickly found. The inn is now run under the inviting name “Wirtshaus fesch am Kirchsteig”, which puts you in a good mood the first time you see the new restaurant.

The two Munich restaurateurs bring a breath of fresh air into the restaurant. Johann Eder already runs the “Ederwirt” in Munich and the “Wirtshaus fesch” in the Glockbachviertel, while Peter Fleming, as the former operator of the techno club “Harry Klein”, not only likes cooking, but will also live in the inn. “It was love at first sight,” admits Eder after visiting the inn, which led to her decision within an hour. “The atmosphere is simply unique!” adds Fleming. They began careful modernization in mid-August. The existing elements of the restaurant have been preserved, which further adds to the charm of the inn.

Modernization and events

The dining room, the adjoining room and the hall were “gently and carefully modernized”. The upper floor hall in particular, now named “Veronika Fitz Hall” after the popular actress, is used for various events – from meetings to lectures to private celebrations. The first cultural highlights are already planned: The CD presentation “Wurzelwerk” by Johannes Sift will take place on November 15th, followed by “Loisach Marci – Alphorn-Techno” on November 28th and an “Andalusian Christmas” on December 13th. There was already an overwhelming response and positive feedback from the first guests on the opening weekend.

Bavarian cuisine is very important at the “Wirtshaus fesch am Kirchsteig”. The focus is on fresh, regional ingredients, and the menu offers a fine selection of Bavarian classics, complemented by three different types of beer and selected house and organic wines. This means that the new tenant is doubly well positioned, as Bavarian cuisine looks back on a 1,500-year tradition. Historical specialties such as almond milk and Steckerlfisch may soon also be found on the plate at Kirchsteig, making the food offering even more tempting[Bayerischer Rundfunk](https://www.br.de/br- Fernsehenen/versanden/wir-in-bayern/schmankerlhimmel-buch-geschichte-bayerische-kueche-rezepte-michael-appel-102.html).

Insights into Bavarian cuisine

If you want to delve even deeper into the world of Bavarian cuisine, the book “Im Schmankerlhimmel – The History of Bavarian Cuisine” by Michael Appel is a real treasure. Appel, who gained fame as an author and filmmaker, devotes himself, among other things, to the origins of Bavarian cooking traditions and provides recipe ideas for historical dishes. On the occasion of a special week from March 18 to 22, 2024, old Bavarian recipes will be recreated in various restaurants - a great opportunity to rediscover the roots of Bavarian cuisine[Bookstore](https://www.br.de/br- Fernsehenen/versanden/wir-in-bayern/schmankerlhimmel-buch-geschichte-bayerische-kueche-rezepte-michael-appel-102.html).

The new operators and their team now have to continue the tradition of the Wirtshaus am Kirchsteig and at the same time bring a breath of fresh air into the matter. The anticipation for the upcoming events and the Bavarian delicacies is growing - this will definitely open an exciting chapter in the gastronomic history of Dießen!
