A new highlight for Munich's cityscape will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26, 2025, with the opening festival of the newly designed Echardinger green strip. From 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. all citizens are invited to explore the new green space at Fehwiesenstrasse 120. The festival is organized by the Munich Building Department and offers a colorful program for the entire family.
The Echarding green strip is not only a new recreational area, but also a model example of urban greening, supported by programs such as “Future Urban Green” and “Social Cohesion”, which enable the city to support profitable and sustainable projects. With a carefully designed plan, the building department has ensured that the green space in the south of Munich offers space for meetings and activities.

Visitors can look forward to a number of attractions. For the younger guests there are playgrounds and the FESTIVAL BUS, which is run by the Spiellandschaft Stadt e.V. association. Movement is also very important: Skateboarding München e.V. will be offering exciting activities at the new pump track. Various sports and dance performances are also planned, which the neighborhood associations will present with great enthusiasm.
A special highlight of the opening festival is the music program, which will take place in an inviting beer garden area. The samba group Go-Brazil will create a great atmosphere on stage at 2 p.m. Various musical performances follow throughout the afternoon, including djembe sounds and modern hits from CELLZ aka FI.MU. The variety of music ranges from gypsy and jazz to modern pop sounds.
A permanent place for everyone
The guests will be welcomed by, among others, construction officer Dr.-Ing. Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer, the second mayor Dominik Krause and Alexander Friedrich, chairman of District Committee 14. Speeches from the guests of honor are expected from 2:15 p.m., followed by lively performances and entertainment. The festival promises to be not only a place for communal experiences, but also a window for diverse cultural performances.
The building department will provide information about another important aspect on the sidelines of the event: The extensive construction project was implemented with a clear focus on sustainable design and quality of stay. What is particularly noteworthy is that the city of Munich also offers numerous funding programs for greening projects that provide incentives to further expand the city's greenery. These include grants for green roofs and facades as well as measures to unseal areas that promote a greener way of life in the city.
