Drunk driving remains a problem
Another serious incident occurred on Friday evening on Leopoldstrasse, where a 61-year-old Pedelec driver was critically injured in a collision with a car. The man was drunk and did not have a helmet on when he rode on the road instead of the bike path. A 33-year-old driver parked his vehicle backwards on the side of the road, which the Pedelec driver overlooked and crashed into the rear. These accidents fit into the picture of the current traffic situation in Bavaria. According to the Bavarian Police, there were 5,830 traffic accidents with personal injuries last year, an increase of 4.8%. 7,465 people were injured and 82 people lost their lives. Particularly alarming is the increase in accidents related to drunk driving, which has increased by 18.1%.
