Bogenhausen remains Munich's safest district: positive developments!
The facts are on the table: Bogenhausen is considered by many to be the safest district in Munich. At a recent citizens' meeting, Police Director Andreas Franken presented the current security report. He was pleased to announce that Inspectorate 22, responsible for Bogenhausen and parts of the neighboring districts, had 12,705 operations last year, which corresponds to an average of 35 operations per day. Around 104,000 people live here who can enjoy protection and security, also with regard to important institutions such as the state parliament and several consulates. Our Bogenhausen reports that these operations include not only public order but also preventative measures. Among other things, 150 checks were organized at subway and S-Bahn stations as well as 34 school projects and 48 support measures in kindergartens.
The overall security situation in Munich shows an interesting development: While the frequency of crimes (crimes per 100,000 inhabitants) in the entire city is 5,871 - that is a decrease of 1% compared to the previous year - Bogenhausen can boast a frequency of only 2,825. This means that the region is not only safer than the city in general, but also compared to other districts such as Au or Giesing, where the numbers are significantly higher. The urban statistics states that the clearance rate in inspection 22 is over 60%, which increases confidence in the security forces.
Insights into crime development
When it comes to crime statistics, attentive citizens also have a certain amount of skepticism: Loud Weekly Gazette There was a change in reporting behavior for minor offenses, which led to a 1.4% increase in the crime rate in the Munich police headquarters in 2022. In Bogenhausen, on the other hand, the number of crimes was reduced by 1.4%, and this positive trend has continued so far. This shows that the police's efforts are definitely having an impact.
What is particularly interesting is that 12 out of 50 apartment burglaries in Bogenhausen were in the hands of an Italian gang, but almost every second burglary attempt fails thanks to modern security devices. The numbers speak for themselves: Of the 2,946 crimes registered in Inspection 22, 69 residential burglaries were recorded, with around 60% actually being completed, precisely because many citizens now rely on security technology.
Prevention and awareness
Police chief Andrea Ortmayr, who led the citizens' meeting with 300 interested people, also leaves no doubt about how important prevention is. The police want to further reduce the crime rate with various measures. This includes not only traffic checks, of which around 30,000 are carried out every year, but also targeted campaigns to raise awareness, for example against the theft of unsecured car tires. A simple tip for everyone: It's better to store the tires in locked rooms!
The fact is that the people of Munich have to stand up for their safety. Anyone can report incidents via the emergency number 110. A good hand in combating crime is also shown by the example of a recently arrested carjacker. Here too, collaboration leads to security!
