Traditionally cool Kocherlball: dance and enjoy at the Chinese Tower!

The Kocherlball, a true Munich tradition, is just around the corner again! On Sunday, July 20, 2025, the beer garden at the Chinese Tower in the English Garden will be transformed into a lively dance floor. From 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., all dance enthusiasts are invited to celebrate in the open air and revive the old customs. Entry is free and table reservations can be made from mid-May on the official website, such as in-muenchen.de reported.

What makes the Kocherlball so special? Its origins date back to the 1880s, when domestic staff danced in the fresh morning air at the Chinese Tower. Up to 5,000 participants took part in the early morning dances. But strict moral standards led to the event being banned in 1904. In the 1980s, the Kocherlball was revived to mark the 200th anniversary of the English Garden, and since then it has attracted up to 12,000 visitors every year english-garten-muenchen-infos.de determines.

A celebration for everyone

The event is a highlight not only for dancers, but also for gourmets. Traditionally, delicacies such as ox rolls, Obatzda, bratwurst, pretzels and sweet lard noodles are served. There is also coffee, tea and freshly tapped beer to properly enjoy the day. If the weather is good, you can expect up to 10,000 participants - that's something! The Munich Japan Festival also takes place on the same day, which further heats up the festive mood.

The dress code requires traditional costumes; Guests should dress in dirndls or lederhosen. The dance masters Katharina Mayer and Magnus Kaindl will traditionally lead the event and present dances such as Landler, Zwiefach and Polka. There are even free dance courses in advance at the Hofbräuhaus that help you learn the right steps.

Weatherproof fun

The Kocherlball takes place regardless of the whims of the weather, although severe storms or thunderstorms can lead to the event being canceled. This means that the organizers are well prepared so that people who enjoy dancing can still enjoy the tradition even under less than ideal conditions. The Haberl family will provide guests with a warm welcome in the beer garden, while the music groups will provide the right atmosphere.

So get ready for this unique morning full of dancing, socializing and traditional delicacies. The Kocherlball is just around the corner and will undoubtedly be a hit! Further information and details can be found on the official website kocherlball.de.
