Renovation of the sports field in Munich is delayed – protests from the clubs!

In Munich, especially on Wackersbergerstrasse, the long delay in the renovation of the sports facility is causing dissatisfaction among local politicians and affected clubs. The construction work, which started in April 2024, is affected by a three and a half month delay. There has been little progress visible so far, as only the floor slab of the new company building was completed by the end of 2024. This is reported by the tz.

The situation is particularly frustrating for the football clubs FC Viktoria and SC München Süd, which have not played games since December 2023. Despite a mild winter in 2024/2025, construction progress fell by the wayside. Neither the clubs nor the district committee were informed about the reasons for the delay or possible compensation measures. SC Süd is faced with even more problems: the allocation of the new clubhouse should no longer be carried out by the club itself, but by the city, which brings with it additional uncertainty.

Political reactions and demands

The CSU parliamentary group reacted to the grievance and submitted a motion that was unanimously accepted by the district committee. The application requires a detailed construction schedule as well as regular information about the progress of the renovation work. The aim is also to complete the system by the end of 2025. Support in finding replacement game and training locations for SC Süd is also required. Proposals for support were made by the district committee last year.

A major concern is also the commitment to continue operating the club restaurant under the current conditions. In order to secure SC Süd's club and game operations in the long term, adjustments to the contractual situation regarding facility use should also be made.

The condition of other sports facilities

Süddeutsche Zeitung berichtet.

The political representatives and those responsible are also interested in the status of the leasing of the catering industry in Surheimer Weg, which should finally be pushed forward after the Corona lockdowns. There are also questions about the photovoltaic system, which is not yet in operation, although Sendling-Westpark is considered a pilot district for climate neutrality.

An outlook on further developments

In times of great challenges, the city of Munich has a task to shoulder with projects to renovate and improve the sports infrastructure. Facilities such as those on Wackersbergerstrasse and the district sports facility on Surheimer Weg are the focus. Pipes and equipment need to be modernized, and the Baumann engineering firm could offer valuable support in this regard. They offer comprehensive advice on the planning and implementation of modern sports facilities that are not only functional but also future-proof, as can be read on their website here.

It remains to be hoped that the responsible authorities will soon implement the necessary measures so that the sports clubs can pursue their passion without restrictions.
