Longing for freedom: Doris Heidenberger inspires in Huglfing!
In the past few days the artist movedDoris Heidenbergerattracted many visitors with her exhibition “A lot of room for improvement” in the Huglfinger exhibition center. The exhibition by June 27th to 29th, 2025 and onJuly 5th and 6th, 2025will be on display, offers an impressive insight into Heidenberger's artistic world, which is strongly inspired by the landscapes of the foothills of the Alps.
In her paintings, Heidenberger addresses the vastness and openness of nature. Her goal is to expand the horizons of the viewer with each canvas and to direct their gaze to the sky and the longing for freedom. “If you have it every day, you don’t even notice how special the light is here,” explains the artist, expressing her deep connection to the region. Her works show endless skies, numerous clouds and water surfaces as well as impressive light reflections, which are brought to life through a well-thought-out color palette.
A piece of history: The Munich School of Painting
Heidenberger's style also shows interesting parallels to Munich painting school of the 19th century, which placed the sky over Bavaria in the foreground. This school was founded in the vicinity of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and gained great influence on the German art scene. Her precise depiction of nature and the pursuit of atmospheric expression also come into play in Heidenberger's works, which are influenced by the “Blue Rider”.
In the period from 1850 to 1914, Munich was an important art center that not only attracted artists from Germany, but also influenced events internationally. Karl von Piloty, who took over the academy in 1874, is considered a key figure in this development, while the many art schools in Munich stimulated creative work until 1914.
