Criticism of the SPD leader: resignation demanded, pressure to find a solution is increasing!

In the last few days, the political discourse in Germany has taken a new turn. A letter to the editor from Ursula Schmitz, a citizen of Germering, sharply criticizes the SPD leader Bas and her role as Minister for Labor and Social Affairs. This letter, published on December 2, 2025, accuses the minister of acting ideologically and not being able to offer sustainable solutions. What seems particularly worrying is that the SPD's traditional clientele is increasingly defecting to the AfD, which Schmitz finds alarming. “Why doesn’t the SPD experience more trust?” she asks provocatively and calls for a rethink in the party’s social policy approach, towards a stronger social market economy instead of the current approach, which she describes as “socialism”. In their opinion, the time for solutions is urgent and uncomfortable decisions have to be made in order not to push increasing social spending into the ground without achieving social justice. There are also calls for Bas to resign, as she apparently does not care enough about the concerns of the citizens. In times when every vote counts, this topic creates heated debates.

But it's not just internal conflicts within the SPD. At the Juso federal congress in Mannheim there were loud protests against the AfD youth organization, which shows that the youth are taking an offensive stance against populist trends. According to Spiegel, the Jusos express their dissatisfaction with the political situation in Germany, including this dispute with the AfD sends a clear signal that the SPD does not simply want to accept the extreme positions of its competitors.

The voting decision of the youth

The 2025 federal election also provided interesting insights in this context. A current study shows that many young voters are leaning towards the AfD, the Left or the Citizens Solidarity Voters Association (BSW). What are the reasons for this departure from traditional politics? The thoughts of MDR suggest: The ongoing dispute within the traffic light coalition, as well as inadequate political communication, are considered crucial. Support for the AfD has risen particularly sharply in eastern Germany, where it already has the support of almost 40 percent of voters. A diffuse feeling of protest against the “establishment” also plays a role here, which is clearly articulated by the citizens.

Fears about their own prosperity, exacerbated by crises such as the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, are pushing many citizens to take new political paths. The loss of trust in the party system creates an uncertainty that gnaws at the minds of many people. Many people, especially in the eastern federal states, have the feeling that their social security and prosperity are at stake. It is important to take these fears seriously and to actively conduct a dialogue in order to create a balancing act between different political camps.

In summary, it can be said that the political situation in Germany, especially for the SPD, is challenging. Creative and courageous approaches are needed to regain the trust of the electorate and put a stop to populist movements. With committed youth and the right political course, the SPD could definitely find a way to get out of the current misery.
