Mysterious dead man in the Dresden Heath: Who knows this man?

On September 19, 2024, the dilapidated and largely skeletonized branches of an unknown man were discovered in the Dresden Heath, near the “Alte Acht” hiking trail. As radiodresden.de reports, this unfortunate find was made by walkers on a routine tour. To this day, the identity of the deceased remains a mystery, which prompted the police to take a special measure: they had the man's face reconstructed.

The forensic medical examination revealed interesting details about the unknown man. He was between 60 and 70 years old, around 1.63 meters tall and had a slim build. He had short gray hair and had dentures in his upper jaw. Around the place where he was found, it was also discovered that the man had apparently been lying in the Dresden Heath for a long time. For these reasons, the police are urgently asking for your help: Every piece of information, no matter how small, could help provide new clues to the man's identity.

What's next?

The responsible police department in Dresden has set up a hotline where tips can be received. Interested citizens can call (0351) 483 22 33 or come directly to the police headquarters at Schießgasse 7 in Dresden. According to [polizei.sachsen.de].

The procedure in such missing person cases is not easy. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), which is responsible, among other things, for processing missing person cases, has gained a lot of experience over the years. According to [bka.de](https://www.bka.de/DE/ UnserAufgabe/Ermittlungsunterstuetzung/BearbeitungVermisstenfaelle/arbeitungVermisstenfaelle.html), a person can be considered missing if they are inexplicably absent from their whereabouts and a potential threat to their life is assumed. As of January 1, 2025, around 9,420 missing person cases were registered in Germany, many of which were resolved within a few weeks.

In recent years, the number of reported cases of missing persons, particularly unaccompanied refugee minors, has increased. This challenge highlights the need for close cooperation between different institutions and the police in order to clarify both missing person cases and the identity of unknown people, as in the case of the dead man from Dresden Heath.

Every helping hand can be crucial in unraveling the fate of the unknown man. Therefore, all those who have information or perhaps even knew him are called upon to come forward and help clear up this sad case.
