Hertha BSC signs U17 world champion Heide: A star goalkeeper for Berlin!

A new star in Hertha BSC's goalkeeping sky: With Konstantin Heide, the capital club has signed a real player for the future. The 19-year-old U17 world champion comes from SpVgg Unterhaching and has signed a contract until the summer of 2028. In doing so, Hertha wants to address the bottleneck in the goalkeeper position that has arisen due to the departures and injuries of other players such as Robert Kwasigroch and Marius Gersbeck. The change was officially confirmed on Friday and Heide is already looking forward to the new challenge in Berlin. “I am highly motivated and look forward to supporting my new team,” said the talented keeper.

Heide played 26 competitive games in the 3rd league last season, of which he was initially the undisputed number one at Unterhaching. In these games he conceded a total of 50 goals, but was also able to “keep a clean sheet” four times. A notable highlight of his career was taking part in the 2023 U17 World Cup in Indonesia, where he saved two penalties in both the semifinals and the final, making a significant contribution to the German U17 team's title win. But that's not all: he also reached the EURO semi-finals with the U19s this summer.

The reasons for the obligation

There is a clear plan behind the change, which Hertha sports director Benjamin Weber also clearly emphasizes. He sees great potential in Heide and is sure that the young keeper can play a crucial role in the team. The fact that Tim Goller and Marius Gersbeck are injured for an indefinite period of time makes the commitment all the more urgent. At the moment Tjark Ernst is Hertha's first choice, supported by Dennis Smarsch. The challenge of competing for position is a welcome challenge for Heide.

Heide was pushed out of his position at Unterhaching in the second half of last season, which enabled him to make the move. However, his impressive performances in the U-national teams have given him a good foundation for the next stage of his career. “I am ready to give everything and look forward to taking the next steps in my career here in Berlin,” said the goalkeeper in an initial statement.

The transfer fee of 50,000 euros that Hertha paid for the keeper can be classified as quite moderate given his young age and his potential scope for development. The club seems to have a good sense for talent here and is committed to young talent and the future. This gives hope that Konstantin Heide could become not just a short-term kicker, but a long-term part of the Hertha family.

With this step, Hertha BSC shows that they are ready to reposition themselves both sportily and strategically. Fans can be excited to see how the young talent will develop in the coming months. The coming season promises a lot of excitement!
