S-Bahn chaos in Munich: timetable changes and cancellations from July 23rd!
In Munich there will be significant restrictions on the S-Bahn lines S3 and S7 in the coming nights. On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 2:15 a.m., timetable changes have been announced due to construction sites and maintenance work. This is also reported by tz.de. This could lead to challenges for many commuters and travelers, as the S7 between Munich main station and Wolfratshausen is affected.
But that's not enough! The S3 is also struggling with cancellations and different departure times. These changes affect the night journeys between Pasing and Mammendorf. The affected nights are from Wednesday July 23rd to the first week of August and other nights in August. Here is an overview of the data:
S3 timetable overview
- 23./24. Juli 2025
- 24./25. Juli 2025
- 27./28. Juli 2025 bis 31. Juli/1. August 2025
- 3./4. August 2025 bis 7./8. August 2025
In addition, work is being done on the platform roof in Olching, which entails additional restrictions. The Munich S-Bahn, which has connected the state capital with the surrounding area since 1972, is particularly challenged - not only because of the current construction sites, but also because of the extensive construction work on the main line that has been underway since 2017. The new S-Bahn tunnel under the city center will ensure faster connections by 2028 and reduce the susceptibility of the existing lines to disruptions, explains muenchen.de.
Replacement traffic and other restrictions
There is also a replacement service between Ostbahnhof and Trudering. Here, S1 trains start and end at the main station, while the S2 trains towards Erding start at the Ostbahnhof. Special adjustments are also necessary for the S3, S4, S5 and the S6/S8, so that some trains do not stop at the usual stops or are canceled completely. For the S4, for example, trains between Trudering and Pasing are canceled, as can be read on s-bahn-muenchen.de.
The effects of the construction work are therefore varied. Passengers should prepare well for their journeys and find out about alternative connections in good time. It will be interesting to see how developments on the main route and the other lines will develop in the coming months.
