New bouldering facility in Munich: climbing fun for everyone in the Westbad!
Munich's sports enthusiasts can rejoice: the building department (horticulture) has built a new bouldering facility southeast of the Westbad, which is now available. The construction, which was based on a request from the district committee, began in April and has now been completed. The facility, which is of the “dropout” type, offers climbing fun for young and old on around 450 square meters.
When planning the bouldering landscape, the building department relied on the initiative's specialist knowledge Kraxl collective set by the German Alpine Club. This initiative aims to build several free and publicly accessible bouldering walls in Munich in order to upgrade unused urban areas and offer a low-threshold, free bouldering offer.
A paradise for climbers
The new bouldering facility impresses with a height of three meters and four differently sized, colored cuboids. These are arranged at different angles and appear to “float” on steel supports. The climbing options are diverse: from large roof areas with extreme overhangs to slightly overhanging wall areas to inclined bouldering areas, everything is available. Around 350 climbing panels and holds ensure that both beginners and experienced climbers get their money's worth.
The floor is equipped with a shock-absorbing base, which provides additional safety when climbing. There is also an information board that provides insights into basic techniques, safety aspects and route guidance. The terrain modeling ensures harmonious integration into the surrounding green area, which is further accentuated by eye-catching red, orange and yellow blocks.
Quiet corners to linger
It's not just climbers who get their money's worth. The bouldering facility also offers accommodation options for all visitors. There are two benches and several boulders as well as newly planted trees and bushes invite you to relax. Construction consultant Dr.-Ing. Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer was enthusiastic about the new sports and leisure activities and sees the facility as an important contribution to promoting an active lifestyle in Munich.
The initiative Kraxl collective, which has already successfully implemented bouldering walls in the past, will take a further step towards a more active urban society with this new facility. People who cannot afford bouldering indoors or who prefer the advantages of outdoors are particularly welcome here.
