Wolt conquers Munich: New online supermarket opens its doors!

Something is happening in the area of online grocery shopping in Munich. The Finnish delivery service Wolt opened its second online supermarket in the Bavarian capital on October 13, 2025. The new location thus complements the existing Wolt Market in the Sendling district. Munich is now Wolt's tenth location in Germany, where the service is already active in cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Cologne. This means that Munich not only remains attractive from a culinary point of view, but is also becoming an increasingly important center for online retail.

The new Wolt supermarket offers its customers a wide range of products of around 5,000 items. This includes frozen foods, fresh produce, baked goods, household items, drugstore products, toys and items for pets. The average delivery time is around 35 minutes, which suits busy city life. Opening times Monday to Saturday are 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and orders can also be placed later. There is also a special promotion in the opening phase: In the first few weeks, deliveries are offered free of charge, which is certainly a good incentive for many.

Regionality and sustainability in focus

Wolt attaches great importance to regionality and works with local providers such as the organic butchery Pichler and the coffee roaster Man Versus Machine. This means that Munich residents can not only shop comfortably from home, but also enjoy regional products. This trend is increasing across the entire food sector, where consumers are placing increasing value on the freshness and origin of products.

Online grocery deliveries have gained popularity in recent years, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. According to the Statista Sales in online grocery retail in Germany increased by 44.3% in 2020. During the pandemic, Germans spent over 300 billion euros on food and beverages, underlining the momentum in e-commerce. In 2024, sales in online food retail are estimated at almost four billion euros. Nevertheless, inflation has also affected this area and dampened online trading, especially for food.

Competition in the online grocery market

However, Wolt does not see itself as alone in the market. There are a number of providers such as Flink, Gorillas and Getir who also offer their services and increase competition. Established companies such as Rewe and Aldi now also offer delivery services. The market for food delivery services will become more fragmented in the future, with on-demand delivery providers constantly fighting for customers' favor.

The opening of the new Wolt store in Munich shows that the trend towards ordering groceries online is continuing and the options for consumers are constantly expanding. It remains exciting to see how the market will develop and which providers will win the race. One thing is certain: online grocery shopping remains very popular in the Bavarian capital.
