Munich's Michelin stars 2025: These restaurants shine again!
In the Bavarian capital, the current Michelin star award is causing mixed feelings. The Michelin Guide Germany 2025 was presented today in Frankfurt am Main and brings with it some surprises, but also disillusionment for Munich's gastronomy. In total, the city now has 13 Michelin restaurants, which is five fewer than last year. This is how the culinary stars are changing in Munich.
The restaurant “1804 Hirschau” was crowned with a new star and now enriches the list of restaurants awarded one star. In addition, the innovative “Tohru in der Schreiberei” achieved three stars, making it one of the twelve 3-star restaurants in Germany. Munich continues to shine with two restaurants at the highest level: the traditional “JAN” and the now newly crowned “Tohru in der Schreiberei”.

A total of 341 restaurants in Germany are receiving awards, which represents an increase compared to the previous year. What is striking is that the number of awarded 3-star restaurants has increased to 12, including two new ones, which underlines the high quality and creativity of German gastronomy. Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guide, particularly highlights the trend towards plant-based cuisine and the importance of regionality and seasonality. This is also reflected in the increasing number of green star restaurants being recognized for sustainable practices.
The prestige and importance of Michelin stars
The Michelin stars are of enormous importance for many top restaurants. One star means “worth a stop”, two stars means “worth a detour” and three stars mean “worth a trip”. These prestigious awards not only attract foodies, but are also a crucial factor in the gastronomic landscape. The award is made by anonymous testers who focus exclusively on the quality of the food.
Despite the fact that the number of stars in Munich has fallen, the city remains a hotspot for culinary connoisseurs. The catering industry in Munich has a knack for exceptional cuisine and will remain known for its innovative strength and quality in the future. So it remains to be seen how the restaurants will develop in the coming years and whether one or two lost stars can be regained.
Overall, the MICHELIN Guide Germany remains an indispensable companion for all gourmets and a symbol of the highest culinary quality - not only in Munich, but throughout the country. And so lovers of fine cuisine can look forward to an exciting development in gastronomy while they can celebrate the current stars with a good meal.
The Michelin Guide Germany 2025 will be available to purchase in Germany from July 24th for 29.95 euros, making it a must-have for every culinary journey of discovery.
