Munich Marathon 2025: New organizer and 13,000 registrations already!
The marathon runners in Munich can breathe a sigh of relief: the dispute over the organization of the Munich Marathon has come to an end. Laufstatt Event gGmbH will hold the event on October 12, 2025 after the Bavarian Administrative Court rejected Gernot Weigl's application for interim legal protection. This means that the award to the new organizer is legally incontestable, as is the case South German newspaper reported.
With over 13,000 registrations already received, Laufstatt's second managing director, Anton Martic, is expecting a number of participants of more than 20,000. Preparations are in full swing and the new concept for the event, which is now called “Marathon Munich by Brooks”, promises a breath of fresh air. The city of Munich made the award decision taking traffic compatibility into account, which also contributes to better accessibility to the Biederstein clinic, as shown TZ supplemented.
Disagreements of the past
The former organizer, Munich Marathon GmbH, had tried to reach an amicable collaboration with Laufstatt Event gGmbH, but this failed. Gernot Weigl, the former organizer, had announced legal action against the award, which has now been invalidated by the court decision.
Laufstatt managing director Fabian Schäfer is optimistic and emphasizes the trust in the legality of the procurement process. There was hardly any communication between the two parties until the end, and a desired settlement was unilaterally ended by Weigl. The new route excludes residents in Maxvorstadt in order to optimize implementation and offer participants an attractive route through Munich city center.
Challenges of event organization
Organizing a sporting event is not an easy matter. It requires not only creative concepts, but also legal expertise, such as Martens Legal highlights. From the application to compliance with public requirements to the complex contractual relationships, everything is well thought out. A successful event is not just a question of sport, but also of the legal framework.
The momentum that has emerged leading up to this event shows that there is always a lot at stake at a major event. The anticipation for the marathon is growing, and with every new registration it becomes clearer that October 12th will be an exciting day for all runners in Munich. The city and the organizers are ready to meet this challenge with enthusiasm.
