Will the neighborhood meeting in Moosach hold despite plans to close?

Things are boiling in Moosach! The neighborhood meeting point on Untermenzinger Strasse is on the brink. However, the district committee has decided to fight for the preservation of this important contact point. District boss Wolfgang Kuhn (SPD) has now announced that the meeting will initially remain open for two years, which is seen as a real partial success. “Although the administration's proposed resolution does not entirely reflect our view, we had to make a compromise,” says Kuhn, discussing the difficult budget situation. Another aspect that concerns residents is the planned move of the neighborhood meeting place on Karlinger Strasse to larger rooms as part of the renovation, but many seniors have already expressed concerns.

The concerns are understandable, because the lack of public connection to Karlinger Straße could make access significantly more difficult, especially for older people, many over 90 years old. Senior representative Anne Kexel makes it clear how important the meeting on Untermenzinger Straße is for many. It's not just about older people: families and young mothers can also find support and an open ear for their concerns here. The need for such a meeting place will become even clearer in the coming years, as hundreds of new apartments are being built in the Meiller Gardens, which will further increase the need for social and community offerings. The district committee took two years to find a sustainable solution and called on the city to work together with the club's sponsor on a future for the facility. It remains to be seen how the city council will decide on the issue in December.

Strengthening the community

The city also pursues the goal of sustainably developing urban and open space structures. In this sense, the urban redevelopment of Moosach is in full swing. The aim here is not only to carry out structural renovations, but also to create intercultural offerings and take climate neutrality into account. The diversity of offers for different target groups is at the top of the agenda. The neighborhood meeting on Karlinger Straße is seen as a positive development as it is intended to contribute to improving the use of space. Using “multicoding” the use of space is diversified to create more synergies.

In the context of large housing developments, which are increasingly coming into focus, public discourses and political debates have become more important. The project for the future-oriented development of neighborhood centers aims to find new approaches that address both social and infrastructural needs. The challenges of climate change, the transport transition and digitalization require creative solutions to increase the quality of life in these areas.

The neighborhood meeting place on Untermenzinger Straße plays an important role in this overall picture and could serve as a model for future social spaces in the city. The commitment of residents and political representatives is crucial to ensuring this meeting is a central part of the district. So it remains to be hoped that everyone involved has a good hand in preserving the meeting place as an important place for community and support in the long term.
