Moni renovated: Excitement at the Viktualienmarkt with police intervention!

The smell of freshly baked bread and hearty sausage wafts across the Viktualienmarkt. Here, in one of the most popular spots in Munich, Moni Riemerschmidt – played by the well-known Monika Gruber – dares to make a new beginning. Today, June 8, 2025, she begins the renovation of a stand that has been closed for years and is directly opposite Elfi Pollinger, the good-natured stand operator. But this revival has a few hurdles to overcome right from the start. The trade inspection office is on hand with two police officers to check Moni's personal details and her business license, which turns out to be not that easy in her case because her new identity card has not yet been issued, as ardmediathek.de reports.

While Moni is working, the police bring some excitement to the market. Xaver Bartl, known from the series “Munich 7” and played by Andreas Giebel, also does his morning rounds and can keep an eye on what is happening. Elfi Pollinger, played by Christine Neubauer, listens intently to the debate from her stand and is of course not exactly happy about the situation. It turns out that Xaver, as the tenant of the stand, is vouching for Moni, which further inflames tempers and infuriates Elfi.

A chaotic search

But that's not all, because now Xaver and Felix Kandler (Florian Karlheim) have to track down Moni's ex-partner, Angelo Malerba (Giorgio Lupano), in order to obtain important documents. Things get exciting when Max Rothinger (Wowo Habdank) searches for his lost wedding ring with a sieve in a playground - his search brings additional banter and it's clear that chaos is on the way.

The complexity of the situation becomes visible when a gay couple, Anton Wiedemann (Andreas Bittl) and Paul Glauke (Michael Grimm), become involved in a fight, which brings the police onto the scene. When the personal details are taken, it is discovered that not everyone is registered as having the same place of residence. An appearance that shows that the Viktualienmarkt often tells multi-layered stories.

The Viktualienmarkt at a glance

Such events are not uncommon at the pioneer of the Munich lifestyle. The Viktualienmarkt, the city's largest and best-known market, is a central point of contact for hungry Munich residents and tourists. Managed by the market supervision, which has been ensuring that everything runs smoothly here for years, it is not only a place for culinary delicacies, but also a venue for creative ideas and interesting encounters. The market supervision is available Monday to Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and its address is: Viktualienmarkt 38, 0881 Munich. The episode of the series “Munich 7” in which these stories are set was broadcast in 2011 and shows how the art of storytelling and people's everyday lives are closely linked. A thoughtful look at life's challenges, wonderfully packaged in a humorous setting. The episode will be broadcast tonight from 9:45 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on [BR Fernsehen Deutschland](https://www.br.de/br- Fernsehenen/programmkalender/sender-4329426.html).
