Merz and Macron are increasing pressure on Putin: sanctions are threatening!

In recent days, the discussion about the Ukraine conflict has increased again, and the focus is on a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian head of state Volodymyr Zelensky. Loud Lesseniel Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz accuses Moscow of a "delay strategy". He criticizes the preconditions demanded by Putin as completely unacceptable and calls for more pressure on Russia.

The planned meeting between the two presidents was supposed to take place within the next two weeks, but the clock is ticking. Merz emphasizes that it is now Moscow's turn and that the Europeans and Americans have the ball in their hands if the meeting does not take place. With growing discontent, the European Union is already threatening new sanctions against Russia in order to increase pressure and end the conflict with Ukraine.

Reactions of the European states

Meanwhile, Germany and France have also responded to repeated Russian air strikes on Ukraine. In a joint statement by the German-French Council of Ministers in Toulon it became clear that these aggressions will not go unanswered. Ukraine has once again been assured of air defense support and serious consideration is being given to military assistance. A rustle of sanctions is in the air; Companies from third countries that support Russia could also be targeted. The EU and the G7 are intensively committed to these measures.

The urgency of the issue is also reflected in the current talks between the USA and Russia. The United States is supporting Ukraine in its efforts to regain territories that have come under Russian control. How daily news reports, the Ukrainian desire for full territorial integrity, including Crimea, remains unbroken. Russia, on the other hand, rejects any concessions and calls on Ukraine to avoid joining NATO.

International negotiations

Donald Trump recently initiated talks with Putin and Zelensky and although he is no longer so sure that the two presidents will meet soon, he remains optimistic. He has offered to mediate in a trilateral conversation between himself, Putin and Zelensky. Amid these diplomatic maneuvers, it is clear that tensions are not easing. While the US expects concessions from Ukraine to avoid loss of territory, the Europeans are ready to increase their role. A special EU summit scheduled for March 6 could provide further clarification on support for Ukraine.

It remains to be seen whether the planned meetings and negotiations will produce tangible results. The fact is that pressure on Russia will increase if progress is not made. The situation is evolving and the world is watching. We can only hope that a peaceful solution will be found soon.
