Dahoam is Dahoam” takes a summer break for the first time – fans are disappointed!

What’s new at “Dahoam is Dahoam”? The well-known BR series, which runs daily from Monday to Thursday at 7:30 p.m., causes mixed feelings among its fans. This year, for the first time, the series will take a summer break, which will last a total of three weeks. The summer break begins in early August 2025 and is met with great regret from loyal viewers who complain on social media about the planned changes. Mercury reports that instead of the new episodes from August 4th there will be a ranking show called “Best of Dahoam is Dahoam!” is broadcast.

In the following week, viewers will see repeats of regional documentaries from the “Under Our Sky” series. These programs were also shortened from 45 to 30 minutes and are entitled “Under Our Sky – Summer Stories”. The big moment fans are waiting for is the return of “Dahoam is Dahoam” on August 25, 2025. However, 12 episodes of the popular series will not air until then. A total of 185 episodes per year are still planned, which gives hope that the summer break will not have long-term consequences for the series. DWDL highlights that the format remains stable despite this break.

A look at the background

The decision for the summer break is in the context of a 70 million euro savings package that Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) announced in October 2024. A spokesman for the BR confirmed this measure and explained that all BR directorates must save three percent of their budget. This has already led to the elimination of some positions in the spring. Nevertheless, the Broadcasting Council recently gave the green light to the production of 395 new episodes until 2028, which remains promising for the future of “Dahoam is Dahoam”.

Additionally, “Dahoam is Dahoam” won’t be the only series bowing out over the summer. Many other ARD formats, such as “Rote Rosen” and “Sturm der Liebe”, are also saying goodbye at the end of June. These formats will return on September 1st, while some talk shows and satirical programs will also go on summer break. Hörzu informed about these market shifts and shows that summer is a time of waiting for many television viewers.

Fans of “Dahoam is Dahoam” will have to be patient, but the return on August 25th promises a breath of fresh air and new stories from the home village. Until then, we can only hope that the reruns and summer stories offer at least a little consolation.
