Pub 80 in Glockenbach: The new experience for night owls!
Something exciting is happening in the heart of the Glockenbachviertel – “Kneipe 80” opens on September 18th in the former “Pasta e Basta”. Operator Marc Uebelherr, who runs several pop-up restaurants in Munich together with Alex Brenner and Markus Bauer, is bringing back the flair of the 1980s with this new concept. Barer Straße was already a popular hotspot, and now the Glockenbachviertel should have a similar appeal. The pub sees itself as a place for all generations where togetherness is the priority, because “not a bar. Not a tavern. Not a café.” is the promise.
As soon as you enter it becomes clear: the design plays with bright royal blue and neon orange, complemented by atmospheric neon lights. The mix of high tables, seating niches and lounge areas invite you to linger. Uebelherr's daughter Julie and Vincent Bienmüller take over management and ensure that everything runs smoothly. And the concept is simple – “keep it simple” is the motto. The selection ranges from international specialty boards to classic snack offerings, all at affordable prices.
A pop-up with potential
People in Munich have had their eye on “Kneipe 80” for some time. The Abendzeitung reported that its popularity among a young audience leads to certain noise complaints from neighbors, such as the surrounding bars and pubs, which also contribute to the nightlife. But Uebelherr is not afraid of these challenges, as the street scene is already known for its lively atmosphere.
About the prices: Half a spade is available for 4.20 euros, a wine spritzer costs 4.50 euros. At a time when gastronomy is placing more and more emphasis on regionality and sustainability, the “Kneipe 80” also does justice to its clientele. Here we not only eat and drink well, but also value sustainable production. Current trends in the catering industry show that catering establishments are increasingly relying on environmentally friendly practices, which will be a decisive factor for success.
The challenges of gastronomy
However, the catering industry faces major challenges. A hallmark of Uebelherr's projects is that fewer skilled workers are employed, but rather employees with a passion for hospitality - often students who take on the adventure of gastronomy. Despite these hurdles, there are always promising developments. This shows that many catering establishments are considering digital solutions more and have adopted new technologies, such as mobile payment or even AI, which can further optimize processes in the catering industry.
On September 18th the time has finally come – the “Kneipe 80 im Glockenbach” opens its doors for a soft opening, before the official opening with a complete menu and fully functional kitchen follows in February. The opening times are promising: Sun to Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. - ideal conditions to experience the spirit of the 80s in a modern guise!
