Ingrid Appel is fighting for more social offers in Hadern!

In Munich-Hadern there are currently efforts to improve the offering for older citizens. The committed Ingrid Appel, who has been campaigning for the needs of the older generation for 20 years, is fighting for the establishment of another waste management center (ASZ). The original plan was for an ASZ to open its doors at Stiftsbogen in 2008, but that didn't happen. A new center is now being built at Max-Lebsche-Platz. But Appel is dampening expectations: “That won’t be enough,” she says worriedly, as there are a particularly large number of older people living in Hadern and a nursing home, a community center and an ASZ in the district center are urgently needed.

In addition to these needs, Appel is committed to using the rooms in Mehlfeld that have been unused for years for social purposes. “We want to offer events here that benefit our neighbors and especially seniors,” she explains. She also conducts security consultations to warn older people about fraudsters posing as police officers. The security situation remains an important issue, as does continued support for the elderly population.

All-round service for seniors

There are currently 33 old people's and service centers (ASZ) in Munich, which pursue a concept that is unique in Germany. These centers combine preventive and care services and are open to all people, regardless of origin, skin color or social circumstances. The ASZ offer a wide range of services: from social-educational advice for older people and their relatives to the provision of assistance and the coordination of home care services. Munich.de states that the ASZ also help directly in everyday life, with social lunches or care offers for people with psychological changes or dementia, to name just a few of the diverse offers.

A central goal of these centers is to strengthen the independence of older people and to promote their mental and physical health. Preventative home visits for seniors are offered, even if no immediate help is needed. This is how loneliness and isolation are counteracted.

Community in ASZ Pasing

An example of meaningful community events is the ASZ Pasing, which is planning a film screening of “The Grinch” on December 15th. The film shows how preparations for Christmas are being made in Whoville, a small town, and the Grinch tries to ruin the fun. The event, which begins at 2 p.m. in the meeting room, is a great way to spend an afternoon together. Anyone who would like to take part should register by December 12th. ASZ Pasing Not only does it offer entertainment, but it also promotes exchange among seniors.

Ingrid Appel's commitment and the ASZ's offerings are an important step towards taking into account the needs of the older generation in Hadern and beyond. It is clear: Instead of standing still, there are many initiatives in Munich that want to offer older citizens an environment worth living in.
