Generational change at the Freising Clinic: New chief physician teams start!
A lot is happening at the Freising Clinic: A breath of fresh air is blowing through the departments, with two new chief physicians. Since September 1, 2025, PD Dr. Daniela Hauer (46) is in the anesthesia department, while Dr. Tobias Weiglein (42) has taken over the department of hematology and oncology. Both bring valuable experience from renowned institutions and follow long-serving predecessors who are retiring after many years.
Dr. Hauer looks back on an impressive career, which she most recently spent as a senior physician and department head at the LMU Clinic in Munich. Her focus is not only on anesthesiology, but also on intensive care, emergency and palliative medicine. She is now using her expertise to advocate for important changes at the Freising Clinic that will benefit patients. The expansion of intensive care medicine and increased interdisciplinary collaboration are just some of its goals. Future projects include the construction of a new intensive care unit and the relocation of the palliative care unit to protected rooms, which is particularly important for seriously ill patients Mercury reported.
Dr. Weiglein, on the other hand, has a completely different challenge ahead of him. As a specialist in hematology, oncology and internal medicine, he brings with him extensive knowledge that he gained in his previous position at the Großhadern Clinic. His goal is to improve outpatient care and have the clinic certified as a “cancer center.” In addition, Dr. Weiglein aims to optimize the interfaces between outpatient and inpatient care and expand capacity for inpatient treatment so that more patients can benefit from high-quality care. That too Freising Hospital recognizes the crucial role of these highly qualified specialists in medical care in the district.
Competence and collaboration in focus
The innovations at the Freising Clinic are not only a sign of a generational change, but also reflect the clinic's ongoing efforts to ensure optimal medical care for the region. The anesthesia under Dr. Hauer offers a comprehensive range of services, ranging from regional anesthesia to modern palliative care approaches. This is particularly relevant since Freising is already considered a pioneer in regional anesthesia.
The close collaboration with the Munich university hospitals such as the LMU and the TU ensures that the most modern procedures are available in the areas of hematology and oncology, even if some highly specialized forms of treatment have to be carried out externally. The Freising Clinic makes a valuable contribution to health care in these disciplines.
For the coming period, both new chief physicians will place strong emphasis on medical quality and humanitarian care for patients. The expertise, experience and fresh ideas of Dr. Hauer and Dr. Weiglein could therefore represent real added value for patients and their relatives. How University Medical Center Frankfurt describes, the intensive exchange between patient care and research plays a central role. This could also support the desired goal of the two new chief physicians: to make medical care visible at a top international level.
