Chainsaws in use: Fire destroys garden shed in Lerchenau!
On Monday evening, September 15th, the Munich fire department was called to a burning garden shed in Lerchenau. The emergency services arrived on Wilhelmine-Reichard-Straße at around 6:30 p.m. and were immediately faced with a complicated operational situation as the fire had broken out in a fenced-in garden area that was difficult to access. As the Evening newspaper reported that the fire had already spread to the garden shed extension.
When the fire brigade arrived, they found an extension fully engulfed in flames, which was quickly extinguished with three pipes. Due to the difficult location in the dense bushes, access to the hut was only possible with chainsaws. Respiratory protection wearers ensured the extinguishing attack and the police, who were already on site, instructed the fire department. Despite intensive follow-up inspections, it was determined that the hut was empty but may have been used as a temporary sleeping quarters in the past, they said tz.
Challenges during post-extinguishing work
After the fire was initially extinguished, extensive extinguishing work began. However, these turned out to be extremely difficult. The Evening newspaper emphasizes that the tin roof of the hut and large amounts of rubbish inside made it difficult to photograph remaining sources of fire. In order to open the metal roof and expose embers, a turntable ladder with a rescue saw was requested. Thanks to a thermal imaging camera, the remaining sources of the fire were located and extinguished.
In total, the entire operation lasted around two and a half hours until the emergency services had the situation under control. The police have now taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire, which so far remains unclear.
Such incidents shed light on the dangers and challenges of fires occurring around the world. According to a recent report on fire statistics, this does not only apply to Munich, but is a global issue that has become increasingly important in recent years ( CTIF ). The data shows how important well-trained firefighters and rapid intervention are to prevent major damage.
