Construction work in Munich: Public transport will be at a standstill until March - this is how you get through!
Everything in Munich is currently dominated by major construction work that has an impact on local public transport. From January 11th until probably mid-March, both the second main line of the S-Bahn and the U6 in the city will be comprehensively renovated. These measures are essential to make the infrastructure fit for the future.
As the tz reported, the U2 and U6 lines in particular are the focus of this work. On the U2 there will be track preparation between Hasenbergl and Milbertshofen between January 18th and 23rd. The U2 is divided into two sections: The section from Feldmoching to Scheidplatz runs every 20 minutes, while the second section to Messestadt-Ost runs every 10 minutes. A transfer at Scheidplatz via the mezzanine is required.
S-Bahn lines and replacement services
But it's not just the subway that's affected. The S-Bahn lines are also undergoing some changes. From January 13th, construction will begin on the second S-Bahn main line in Laim. The replacement bus service between Pasing and Donnersbergerbrücke will be set up at night from 10:20 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and should last until February 13th. There are also profound restrictions for the S-Bahn lines:
Another important note: The expansion at Ostbahnhof will begin on January 24th, and there will also be a replacement service between Ostbahnhof and Trudering on three weekends until February 8th. This also affects various S-Bahn lines, including the S1, which ends at the main station without stopping at Hackerbrücke.
Travelers with reduced mobility
According to the, it is recommended for travelers with limited mobility Munich S-Bahn, to switch to the Pasing and Hirschgarten stations, which are easily accessible by public transport. Bus line 130/157 directly connects the Pasing, Laim and Westendstraße stations.
There are also additional traffic restrictions on Föhringer Ring, where clearing work will be carried out from January 7th to 24th, which will lead to complete closures of state road 2088. Affected road users must expect diversions; here, too, the work is divided into two construction phases, as shown muenchen.de can be read.
The city of Munich appeals to all passengers to inform themselves in advance and try to use alternative transport routes. Ultimately, large-scale projects like these are crucial for sustainable mobility in the future.
