Three friends master 480 km: Munich cycling adventure to Venice!

A crisp 480 kilometers, more than 3,500 meters of altitude and the whole thing within 24 hours - these are the cornerstones of the adventurous tour of three friends who, one night while in the mood for beer, decided to ride their racing bike from Munich to Venice. Maurice Mack (26), Dominik Fey (32) and Dominik Bobinger (34) took up this challenge and started from Munich's Marienplatz on the night of May 23rd.

The route took the three athletes over picturesque landscapes, including Tegernsee, Achensee and Innsbruck. But the journey was not only scenic, but also posed a massive mental challenge, especially in the first section, which was characterized by heavy rain. When they arrived in Innsbruck, they had to take a short break after the tricky climb over the old Brenner Road. An encounter with their own limits came at the 300 kilometer mark in Trento: here the energy supply was replenished.

The requirements of the tour

The three friends had packed some essential things for the tour. Along with saddlebags full of energy bars and Haribo gummy bears, electrolytes were a must. “The biggest challenge was the mental battle,” Fey said afterwards. Physically, however, they felt okay after arriving in the lagoon city of Venice in the middle of the night. After almost 24 hours of driving, it was time to brush your teeth, shower and then catch up on some well-deserved sleep. On Saturday and Sunday they treated themselves to a little rest and relaxation in Venice.

The entire tour shows once again how popular the route from Munich to Venice is with racing cyclists. In addition to the sporting challenge, the breathtaking landscapes are also not neglected. There is information for those who might want to take up the idea themselves: At Funactive, for example, there are organized tours that start in Bad Tölz or directly in Munich. These trips are often very well thought out, as it is not possible to travel to Munich during Oktoberfest. In these cases, train tickets to Munich are included in the price.

Bicycle tours with a lot of comfort

The tours to Venice not only offer sporting challenges, but also comprehensive safety services. Free travel protection from “Fire and Ice” is included, which covers up to 10,000 euros for search, rescue or recovery operations. There is also accident insurance that pays up to 25,000 euros in the event of death. This makes you feel good when you embark on such adventures.

Mack, Fey and Bobinger are already looking at further sporting ventures in the future. A circumnavigation of Mallorca could be under discussion for next year after they set their sights on the Rhön cycling marathon in Bimbach, East Hesse. With so much enthusiasm, one can only hope that they will continue to tell us about their adventures.
