Serious tram accident in Munich: Two children fight for their lives!

A tragic incident shook Kreillerstrasse in Munich on Thursday evening, July 17, 2025. At around 8:05 p.m., two children were critically injured when they were hit head-on by a tram. The emergency call was received shortly after 8 p.m. by the integrated control center, which immediately dispatched several ambulances and two emergency doctors to the scene of the accident. The two injured children lay seriously wounded on the ground and received intensive medical care immediately.

The emergency services acted quickly and efficiently. After initial care, the children were immediately transported to special clinics. While one of the children was taken to a clinic in Munich, a helicopter transport to the clinic in Murnau was organized for the second child. In addition, the children's mother and the tram driver received psychological support from the crisis intervention team (KIT Munich) in order to process the traumatic experiences. The police have already started investigating the exact cause of the accident. Due to the incident, there were significant traffic delays in the area of the accident site, which affected many passers-by and residents.

The dangers for children

This terrible accident highlights the dangers children face. According to a study by kinder-sicherheit.de, accident injuries are among the greatest health risks for children and young people in Germany. Accidents are the most common cause of death for children aged one and over. In 2021, more than 1.9 million children suffered an accident that caused them to seek medical attention. One in eight children involved in an accident had to stay in hospital for at least one night. Most accidents occur in private environments, at schools or playgrounds.

It is alarming that more than 167,000 children required hospitalization due to accidents in 2021. Tragically, 163 of the children who died were under the age of 15, highlighting the need for safety measures and increased attention to children in public spaces.

The local authorities and the police will continue to do everything they can to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident and increase security in this sensitive area. We wish the affected families all the best in these difficult times and hope for a speedy recovery for the injured children.
