Munich Marathon 2025: These streets are closed on Sunday!

This year's Munich Marathon will take place in Munich next Sunday, October 12, 2025. Over 26,000 running enthusiasts registered for the event. Organized by Marathon Munich by Brooks, it is being held by this organizer for the first time this year. Different distances await the runners, so there is something for everyone.

Participants can look forward to the following distances: marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.1 km), a 10 km run, a relay marathon in which four runners share the distance, and a “kids run” for children between 6 and 14 years on distances of 1.5 and 3 km. Also new to the program is the “Friendship Run by Brooks x parkrun”, a free, untimed 5 km run.

Important information about road closures

The marathon also involves various road closures, which are of particular importance on Sunday. In the Schwabing West and Maxvorstadt districts, the streets are closed between 8:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. In the old town, the closures apply from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., while Bogenhausen is affected from 9:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. In the English Garden the restrictions are from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as in Berg am Laim from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and in Au-Haidhausen from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Affected streets include Ackermannstrasse, Elisabethstrasse, Leopoldstrasse, Ludwigstrasse, Marienplatz and Rosenheimer Strasse, which cannot be used during the marathon. To ensure smooth participation, residents and drivers are asked to avoid the closed areas and plan their route accordingly.

Public transport affected

There will also be restrictions on local public transport. Until around 4 p.m., passengers can expect disruptions on the following tram lines: 12, 16, 17, 19, 21, 25, 27 and 28. Numerous bus lines are also affected, including SEV 16, X30, and many more. Bus line 154 in particular will run on a different route from around 8:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m., with some stops being eliminated, such as Wilhelm-Dieß-Weg and the Bogenhausen Clinic. From 2:10 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. bus route 154 will only run on a shortened route.

Passengers are requested to find out about the new departure times and rerouted routes in good time to avoid inconveniences. The MVG recommends following the current timetables in order to use the best possible connection. In addition to the recommended bypasses, the upcoming marathon event also offers an excellent opportunity to experience the city in a different way.

Prepare for a sporty Sunday and support the participants along the route!
