Bayern signs NBA star Dinwiddie – debut in the EuroLeague imminent!
Spencer Dinwiddie has signed a new contract with FC Bayern Munich and will therefore be part of the EuroLeague. The 31-year-old development player has an impressive career spanning 11 years in the NBA, during which he played 621 games. After his time with the Charlotte Hornets, where he was not included in the final squad of the season, Dinwiddie has the chance to shine at FC Bayern.
FC Bayern officials have announced that Dinwiddie will complete his medical tests in the first half of the week. However, he is not expected to be on the floor for the EuroLeague game against Real Madrid on Tuesday. However, a possible debut appearance could come on Thursday in the game against Virtus Bologna, depending on the results of fitness examinations. Virtus Bologna could be particularly explosive for Dinwiddie because Carsen Edwards, a former Bavarian and currently the second best scorer in the EuroLeague with an average of 20.2 points per game, plays there.
A look at Dinwiddie's career
Dinwiddie, who was signed by the Washington Wizards in August 2021 as part of a complex *sign-and-trade* deal involving five teams, has since played with various teams around the league. His transfer to the Dallas Mavericks in February 2022 was particularly notable, as he averaged 14.2 points in 18 playoff appearances and led the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals. After this commitment, he moved back to the Brooklyn Nets in February 2023, where he put up an impressive 9.1 assists per game in 26 games. Dinwiddie most recently signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2024, but extended his contract again with the Mavericks in the summer of 2024.
Now the experienced player is taking the step into the EuroLeague and hopes to stand out in the FC Bayern jersey while the team is currently battling a long injury list. The 2025-26 EuroLeague season includes numerous well-known teams such as Anadolu Efes, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who will compete against each other in the coming months.
The challenges of the EuroLeague
In the EuroLeague the demands are high and the competition is fierce. Dinwiddie will be required to quickly adapt to the level of play and intensity of the European stage. With the best players in the league like Nadir Hifi, Carsen Edwards and other top athletes, every point and every assist will be crucial. The fact that Bayern Munich are currently struggling with injuries doesn't make Dinwiddie's task any easier, but he has proven in the past that he can function under pressure.
FC Bayern fans can look forward to the development and the upcoming games, in which Dinwiddie will certainly want to prove his qualities. An exciting chapter in his career is just around the corner!
