Munich's S-Bahn stations: Seven stations will become the modern future!
Deutsche Bahn has big plans for the S-Bahn stations in the Munich area. This year there are seven stations on the list that are to be converted into modern train stations of the future. With an investment of around seven million euros, provided by both Deutsche Bahn and the federal government, around 34,000 passengers will benefit from the upcoming improvements every day. The measures include both visual improvements and a significant improvement in comfort and orientation for travelers. Augsburger Allgemeine reports that the Lochhausen, Gilching-Argelsried, Feldkirchen, St.-Martin-Straße and Buchenau train stations will receive a new design concept. In the already modernized Stockdorf and Unterschleißheim train stations, you could already get a first impression of the new colors and designs.
The plans include a comprehensive redesign of the underpasses and platforms, new energy-saving LED lighting and an improved information system. The aim of these measures is to increase accessibility for all travelers, which Deutsche Bahn particularly emphasizes. Esther Heckmann, head of the DB's southern regional division, emphasizes that the modernization of the train stations is an important step to promote the use of the railway and increase the attractiveness of public transport. This is part of a large-scale, nationwide modernization program that is also being pushed forward in other parts of Germany. This year, around 100 train stations nationwide are scheduled for a similar redesign.
The modernization plans in detail
A closer look at each station shows what specific improvements are planned:
These redesigns are not just cosmetic. In a pilot phase from 2019 to 2021, Deutsche Bahn has already modernized 16 stations, which serve as a successful basis for the concept of future stations. Sustainability Deutsche Bahn shows that innovative traveler information systems and improved bicycle infrastructure have significantly increased customer satisfaction.
The current measures represent a significant step towards upgrading the S-Bahn offerings in Munich and sustainably promoting the use of public transport. The planned modernizations should not only make the stations more attractive, but also significantly increase their functional value. Munich residents can look forward to more modern and user-friendly train stations!
