Pure culture: District week from Aubing to Freiham – a festival for everyone!

From July 17th to 23rd there will be a lot of excitement in the districts of Aubing, Lochhausen and Langwied: the district week, which has been organized in collaboration with the district committees since 1977, is just around the corner! Under the motto “We do something”, over 110 creative people, clubs and institutions are putting together a diverse program. Entry is free and the festival area on Belandwiesenweg promises a balanced mix of culture, art and cuisine. Because when the city turns into a big festival, it is a reason for all Munich residents to be happy!

The opening of the district week will be celebrated on July 17th at 7:30 p.m. in the large circus tent. Here the mayor Verena Dietl and the district committee chairman Sebastian Kriesel will address some greetings to the visitors. The evening will be opened by none other than cabaret artist Roland Hefter with his program “As long as it goes”. The event is organized by the cultural department, which also provides the stages and is responsible for the organization.

Cultural highlights and activities

Visitors can look forward to a varied evening program. For example, guest appearances by artists such as Die Couplet AG, NouWell Cousins, Claudia Pichler, the Hippie Chamber Orchestra and the Adjiri Odametey Trio await the guests. A very special highlight awaits children on Saturday morning: the live music story “Sarah and the Nix” is presented in the circus tent.

But the district week has much more in store! On July 19th, the GRETE Cultural Center Freiham will present the evening “The Wild West – A Midsummer Night’s Dream of improvisational theater and music”. The after-work meeting in the gastro tent from 6 p.m. also becomes a social hub, where local music groups provide entertainment. And for the little visitors there are numerous hands-on and play activities, such as making herbal salt or a cyanotype workshop, which ensure lots of fun.

Surprises for the whole family

Uh la la, it's going to be a party! The extensive program also includes a vehicle show by the volunteer fire department and an open-air exhibition by the Aubinger Artists' Circle, where around 20 painters will exhibit their works. The ubo9 cultural center also offers insights into the art scene with exhibitions by painters and object artists. Families can look forward to games and craft activities that appeal to all the senses.

For those curious, there are a total of 13 guided tours on topics such as the U5 construction site and the former forced labor camp, which bring the history of the region to life. Of course, the “Open Day in Freiham” and the Kulturdult are also a must, where insights into the various housing projects and social facilities are provided. This will be a perfect opportunity to contribute your own ideas and projects and get to know the neighborhood better.

Whether with an exciting play, a reading or the various exhibitions – this district week catapults everyone straight into the heart of Munich culture. Further information is on stadtteilwochen-muenchen.de to find. Join us and let’s create something great together!
