Students in the state parliament: Reading promotion meets political education!

On October 27, 2025, a special event took place in the Bavarian State Parliament in Munich that was important not only for students, but also for political education in Germany. The premiere of the fifth volume of the popular book series “Isar Detectives” was personally presented by the President of the State Parliament, Ilse Aigner. The aim of this book series is to combine exciting criminal cases with knowledge about the Bavarian state parliament in order to promote young readers' interest in democracy and political processes.

A total of 19 students from the fourth and fifth grades of the Altdorf Special Education Center took part in the event. They were accompanied by their teachers Nadine Dummert and Susanne Brunner, who emphasized how important lively political education is for the development of young people. School principal Petra Schön summed it up: “Political education is a central social task in a liberal democracy.”

Interactive elements and exchange

The students not only had the opportunity to experience the book premiere, but were also able to ask questions directly to the author Anja Janotta and the illustrator Stefan Leuchtenberg. This interactivity is a central aspect of political education, which always aims to deepen knowledge about democratic structures and promote a critical distance from society. According to the bpb It is the task of educators to make political education accessible to everyone, regardless of school or extracurricular backgrounds.

After the book presentation, an exciting tour of the Maximilianeum awaited the students, where they were able to experience the scenes of the “Isar Detectives” up close. This practical approach to political topics not only strengthens knowledge, but also awakens interest in the processes in politics and promotes a positive attitude towards democratic culture.

Importance of political education

Civic education is more than just imparting knowledge; it must also promote the affirmation of the democratic order by the next generation. The Neumarkt Current highlights that this type of education contributes to creating critical awareness and preparing young people to face the challenges of an ever-changing society. Formats such as the “Isar Detectives” make access to political education particularly innovative and offer a valuable contribution to personal development.

At a time when political education is more in demand than ever, the task of making this content lively and accessible remains an ongoing challenge. However, events such as the book premiere in the Bavarian State Parliament set a positive tone and show how committed educators and politicians can pull together to strengthen the democracy of tomorrow.
