Traffic chaos in Munich: Together against the right” demonstration on Sunday!
Today, July 18, 2025, Munich will be marked by a large demonstration with the motto “Together against the right – for democracy and diversity”. This event takes place at Rindermarkt in the Altstadt-Lehel, more precisely in the zip code 80331, and attracts more than 25,000 participants. A broad alliance of trade unions, clubs and institutions, including youth organizations such as Jusos, Left Youth and Green Youth, is organizing this protest. The police expect major traffic disruptions, especially in and around Schwabing, and recommend avoiding the area from early afternoon, as BR.de reports.
The demonstration starts at the Siegestor and leads to Münchner Freiheit and back again. On this route is the house of the Danubia fraternity, which is monitored by the Bavarian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution. In order to ward off disturbing objects, barriers will be set up in front of the fraternity house. Around 400 police officers are on duty to accompany the event and ensure security.
Traffic restrictions and recommendations
Drivers can expect traffic restrictions in the Rindermarkt area from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. As News.de reports, it is advised to widen the area bypassed as no diversions have been announced. Visitors should find out about the traffic situation in advance and follow police instructions.
There are some useful tips for those who want to demonstrate: Using Park & Ride services or public transport can help to avoid the stress of traffic. It is expected that subway stations may be overcrowded, which may result in temporary closures. The Munich Transport Company (MVG) has scheduled additional staff to support passengers on this busy Sunday.
Things will also be particularly exciting in connection with an FC Bayern football match in the Allianz Arena, as traffic bottlenecks are also expected here. Bus lines such as 58/68, 100, 153 and 154 have diversions between Odeonsplatz and Siegestor from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., so passengers should be prepared for longer journey times. As you can see, there's a lot going on in the city today!
