Great crowds at the ecumenical service at the Lohhofer Volksfest!

on Whit Monday, a day that is traditionally the founding day of the church, a lively ecumenical service took place in Unterschleissheim. The big rush in the marquee showed how high the interest in this special celebration was. Already in the morning it was a real challenge to get a place. Under the motto "Send your mind, and the face of the earth", the celebration was led by the two committed clergymen, pastor Johannes Streitberger and pastor Theresa Schmidt. Together, Protestants and Catholics celebrated a harmonious coexistence and thus set a sign of unity.

The service was accompanied by a cross -denominational project choir, which was led by Matthias Berthel. Members of Protestant and Catholic choirs as well as many interested parties who joined the musical community were heard. Even if the sky did not quite play in the morning, the mood in the tent was unbroken. The initiator of the service, Lissy Meyer, was proud of the revival of this tradition.

a new format for the smallest

The introduction of a children's service, which was led by Pastor Mirjam Pfeiffer and Katrin Wendlinger, was particularly gratifying. The small participants learned playfully through a parable about Jakob and Esau what community and cohesion mean. This idea of integrating the children's service into the folk festival was very well received and shows that younger generations can also participate in ecumenism.

The ecumenical service in Unterschleißheim is part of a growing trend in Germany, in which more and more communities have discovered the longing for ecumenical celebrations at Pentecost. This development is not only a local phenomenon, but is reflected in many regions, as well as on the Laurenziberg, where there was another service that had to be moved to church in bad weather, but still received a positive response. Initiatives such as this show that a connection between the different denominations is considered particularly valuable on such significant days.

resources for living ecumenism

In order to give such events an even broader framework, the diocese of Speyer and the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate have created a comprehensive work aid for ecumenical services. This brochure, which includes a variety of worship models, would like to encourage you to make the variety of liturgical traditions tangible. It offers numerous suggestions for joint celebrations for different age groups, from children to seniors. Bishopric Speyer Templates are digitally available.

The ecumenical service in Unterschleißheim is a shining example of how community, tradition and mutual tolerance can come together in a festive framework, and once again makes it clear that religion also has a connecting character in the heart of people. It is to be hoped that such celebrations will continue to be very popular and that many people will bring together.
